Sr. Electrical Designer

(10+ Years Experience)

NorthStar Energy Services, a Quanta Services company, is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Designer to join our Professional Engineering Consulting team in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This role supports EPC and engineering design projects for data centers, oil & gas, and petrochemical clients.

The Senior Electrical Designer is responsible for producing high-quality electrical design deliverables from concept development through construction and final as-built documentation. This position works closely with engineers and multidisciplinary design teams to ensure designs are accurate, constructible, and aligned with project requirements.


Design & Drafting

  • Develop and locate electrical and instrumentation (I&E) equipment within a 3D model environment using AutoCAD, CADWorx, and Navisworks.
  • Design site-specific power distribution and control systems in accordance with company, client, and industry standards for new or existing facilities.
  • Interpret PFDs and P&IDs to define project scope and design requirements.
  • Prepare construction-ready drawings including plans, layouts, one-lines, wiring diagrams, and installation details for electrical systems.
  • Size cabinets, panelboards, cable tray, and conduit based on project scope, codes, and vendor data.

Deliverable Management & Coordination

  • Manage electrical design deliverables across concurrent projects from concept through final as-built drawings.
  • Apply company standards, municipal requirements, and applicable regulatory codes to all designs.
  • Perform independent QA/QC reviews of drawing packages and ensure alignment with structural, civil, and other discipline designs.
  • Support Professional Engineers during the design phase by assisting with standards review, calculations, and permitting requirements.
  • Review and respond to RFIs and evaluate third-party vendor drawings for compatibility with intended I&E design.
  • Support field coordination, site verification, and tie-in validation as required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or associate degree in drafting, electrical design, or related field preferred
  • 10+ years of experience as an Electrical Designer supporting industrial, energy, or EPC projects. Experience supporting data center projects a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, CADWorx, and Navisworks
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical design standards and codes including:
    • National Electrical Code (NEC)
    • ANSI/ISA-5.1
    • API RP 500
  • Demonstrated experience producing construction-ready electrical documentation
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage shifting priorities and multiple deadlines
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment
  • Data center design experience, preferred
  • Willingness to complete an in-person, computer-based CAD test as part of the interview process
