What is cabinet production?

Cabinet production is the process of designing, constructing, and assembling cabinets, typically for kitchens, bathrooms, or storage areas. This process involves selecting materials such as wood or engineered products, cutting and shaping components, assembling the pieces, and finishing them with paint or stain. Cabinet production may be done in small workshops or large manufacturing facilities, often using specialized machinery and tools. Skilled workers, such as cabinetmakers or carpenters, ensure that the finished cabinets are functional, durable, and aesthetically pleasing. The process also includes quality checks and sometimes custom installations based on client needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in cabinet production?

To thrive in Cabinet Production, you need strong woodworking skills, attention to detail, and experience with blueprints or technical drawings, often supported by a high school diploma or vocational training. Familiarity with CNC machines, power tools, and industry-specific software like CAD is typically required. Precision, problem-solving, teamwork, and effective time management are crucial soft skills that set top performers apart. These abilities ensure accuracy, safety, and efficiency in producing high-quality cabinetry that meets client specifications and deadlines.

What are some common challenges faced in a cabinet production role, and how can they be addressed?

In cabinet production, one common challenge is maintaining precision and consistency in measurements to ensure all components fit and function correctly. Workers often need to adapt to tight production schedules while upholding quality standards. Collaborating closely with team members, such as finishers or assemblers, helps streamline workflow and catch errors early. Continuous training on new machinery and safety protocols also supports efficiency and reduces workplace incidents.

Job description

Sanding Technician

Purpose

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Sanding Technician to join our high-performing Sanding Department. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on work, possess a keen eye for detail, and are eager to develop their skills in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Youโ€™ll utilize specialized finishing tools and work with high-end finishes as part of a dedicated team focused on producing cabinetry that exceeds Bellmontโ€™s quality standards.

Who You Are

Youโ€™re a motivated Sanding Technician with a solid foundation in surface preparation and hands-on craftsmanship, looking to join a high-performing team where your skills are valued and your career can grow. You take pride in sanding and building select cabinet components to properly prepare them for the next stage of the finishing process, enjoy hands-on work, and thrive in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment. Youโ€™re not just looking for another jobโ€”you want to be part of a company where craftsmanship, teamwork, and continuous improvement are part of the culture.

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Sand cabinet components and custom pieces to ensure proper surface quality for finishing.
  • Prepare and modify select components, including molding, floating shelves, oven hoods, and other custom pieces as needed.
  • Identify surface imperfections or sanding issues and determine appropriate corrections.
  • Safely operate saws and cutting tools to support sanding department operations and build tasks.
  • Move and stage components carefully to support smooth transfer to the next stage of production.
  • Meet daily and weekly production goals while maintaining strict quality standards.
  • Collaborate with team members to support production flow and maintain high finish quality.
  • Maintain your work area to ensure safety, efficiency, and finish integrity.
  • Share ideas for improving processes and outcomesโ€”we value technicians who think critically and take ownership.

Bellmont Cabinet Co. is an Equal Opportunity Employer

What You Bring

  • Previous experience in surface preparation, sanding, or woodworking is a plus; however, a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn are what matter most. Comprehensive training will be provided for the right candidate.
  • Ability to recognize surface quality issues, including areas that are over-sanded, under-sanded, or contain visible imperfections.
  • Comfortable using hand tools, sanding equipment, and shop tools safely and responsibly.
  • Able to safely lift up to 50 pounds alone; lifts over 50 pounds require team assistance.
  • Ability to maintain focus during repetitive tasks and a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Good communication skills to effectively collaborate and report quality concerns.
  • Comfortable reading production schedules, job cards, and basic computer interfaces.
  • A good eye for detail, strong work ethic, and a team-first attitude.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Why Bellmont

At Bellmont Cabinets, we donโ€™t just build cabinetsโ€”we build careers. We invest in our people through training, advancement opportunities, and a collaborative environment where your skills make a real difference. Youโ€™ll join a team of professionals who are proud of what they do and passionate about craftsmanship.

Benefits include:

  • Competitive compensation
  • Full health, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Career growth opportunities
  • A clean, safe, supportive work environment
