What We're Looking For:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in finishing or production management within cabinetry or woodworking manufacturing.
  • Strong technical knowledge of finishing techniques, materials, and equipment.
    • Proficiency withspray equipment(HVLP or airless systems).
    • Knowledge of wood finishing techniques (staining, sealing, lacquering).
    • Familiarity withpaint mixing and color matching.
    • Experience working withwater-based and solvent-based finishes.
    • Knowledge of cabinet materials (wood, MDF, veneers).
  • Data-driven approach with experience in using KPIs to enhance performance.
  • Problem-solving expertise with a focus on root cause analysis and effective solution implementation.

Reports To: Plant Manager / Director of Manufacturing

Position Summary

The Finishing Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the finishing department within a cabinetry manufacturing operation. This role ensures the consistent execution of high-quality finishing processes, manages daily workflow, mentors team members, and drives operational efficiency. The Finishing Superintendent plays a key role in meeting production goals, implementing process improvements, and maintaining alignment with quality standards and customer expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor a team of finishing technicians and specialists to achieve consistent, top-tier finishes across all cabinetry products.
  • Monitor daily operations within the finishing department to ensure efficiency, safety, and quality standards are maintained.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities to reduce downtime, enhance throughput, and improve finish consistency.
  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate department performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with production planning, quality assurance, maintenance, and other departments to ensure alignment with overall production goals.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with internal teams and external partners to resolve issues and ensure production milestones are met.
  • Lead the adoption and implementation of new finishing technologies, techniques, and materials that enhance capabilities and product offerings.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance, calibration, and operation of finishing equipment, including HVLP and airless spray systems.
  • Oversee material usage, inventory control, and waste reduction within the finishing area.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in finishing or production supervision/management within a cabinetry or woodworking manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of finishing processes, including:
    • Spray finishing using HVLP and/or airless systems.
    • Wood finishing techniques: staining, sealing, lacquering.
    • Paint mixing and color matching.
    • Working with water-based and solvent-based finishes.
    • Familiarity with cabinet materials including wood, MDF, and veneers.
  • Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Data-driven approach with experience using KPIs to assess and improve departmental performance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated success in root cause analysis and implementing effective solutions.
