Position Overview

The Project Engineering Technician supports the construction quality assurance (CQA) program for earthwork and civil construction projects across the Southeast. This entry-level position focuses on field testing, construction observation, and detailed documentation under the supervision of senior staff. Technicians play a vital role in ensuring that grading, embankment construction, structural fills, and geosynthetic system installations meet engineering specifications, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree in a related field preferred.

  • 0-3 years of experience in CQA, soil testing, construction inspection, or related work.

  • Must demonstrate proficiency in drive cylinder moisture and density testing and undisturbed Shelby tube sampling within 3 months of hire

  • Must pass the ICC Special Inspector General Requirements certification within 3 months of hire.

  • Must pass the ICC Soils Codes and Soils Plans certifications within 12 months of hire.

  • Nice to Have: Nuclear gauge certification, ACI or ICC Reinforced Concrete Certification

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and client-facing professionalism.

  • Ability to travel extensively (50-90%) within the United States.

  • Ability to work outside in the elements and on varying terrain for extended periods of time.

Key Responsibilities:

Field Testing & Sampling

  • Perform in-place soil moisture and density testing using the drive cylinder method and other approved field procedures.

  • Conduct undisturbed Shelby tube sampling and prepare samples for laboratory testing.

Geosynthetics Observation & Installation Support

  • Support senior technicians during geosynthetics deployment observation activities, including monitoring panel placement, seam welding operations, and anchor trench installation.

  • Observe and document installation of geosynthetic materials such as geomembranes, geotextiles, geocomposites, and drainage layers used in earthwork and containment systems.

Earthwork Monitoring & Documentation

  • Monitor and document soil placement, compaction, grading, and protective cover installation.

  • Produce accurate, detailed daily field reports including test data, material tracking, and construction observations.

Communication & Coordination

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with project engineers, field leads, and construction personnel to ensure alignment on project requirements.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow established safety standards, regulatory requirements, and project-specific quality assurance protocols.

  • Travel full-time to project sites throughout the Southeast.
