Position Summary


The Rear Load Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of rear load trucks to transport waste and recycling materials to designated disposal sites. This role requires adherence to all safety protocols and regulations, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to perform physical tasks. The ideal candidate will have a clean driving record, relevant experience, and a strong commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.


Responsibilities

  • Safely operate roll-off trucks to transport waste and recycling materials to designated disposal sites.
  • Operates vehicle in accordance with all OSHA and DOT requirements as well as all local, state and federal requirements and company expectations for the fleet.
  • Completely dumps all containers and leaves the customer's location clean and free of debris, including physical activity off and on the vehicle to ensure containers are emptied effectively.
  • Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable waste.
  • Clean area around an accidental waste spill, ensuring adherence to all applicable safety standards and policies.
  • Secure loads to prevent spillage or accidents during transport.
  • Follows route assignments throughout the day and completes all documentation when checking-in at the end of the route.
  • Works closely with Route Managers to improve route efficiencies and identify problem or unsafe accounts.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle to ensure proper working condition and utilizing the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report) in accordance to company policy; notes all safety issues on DVIR for review or repair.
  • Follow all company safety protocols and requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and safe vehicle at all times.
  • Immediately reports any unsafe situations or service calls to Route Manager or Dispatch before attempting service.
  • Participates and cooperates in all scheduled training, briefings, and meetings as required by Route Manager.
  • Communicates customer requests or issues to Dispatch or Route Manager.
  • Communicate effectively with Route Manager, Dispatch, customers, and other team members.
  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, pickups, and any incidents.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, pulling, pushing and securing heavy loads.
  • Ability to repeatedly enter/exit high set truck and consistent walking to and from trash carts throughout the route.
  • Work independently, earn a reputation as a trusted team member who will always do the right thing, and communicate proactively.
  • Be a brand ambassador for Greenmark, driving a culture of excellence and true partnership with team members and external stakeholders.

Education and Experience

  • Education: None required.
  • 2+ years of experience operating roll-off trucks or similar heavy vehicles.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record is required.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, physical, and background check, which will include previous employment check, and motor vehicle record review.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend and communicate in English.
  • Basic knowledge of truck components in order to complete pre- and post-trip inspections.
  • Ability to work with electronic devices (i.e., tablets and computers) to perform daily assigned tasks.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal transportation regulations.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Experience identifying and addressing customer needs.
  • Good understanding of the commercial waste and recycling industry.
  • A passion for sustainability and environmental responsibility is a plus.
