Job description

We are hiring an Assistant Buyer for a top fashion company in NYC! The Temporary Assistant Buyer supports the Buying team in executing seasonal and in-season strategies across stores and e-commerce. This role is responsible for accurate reporting, assortment and order maintenance, inventory tracking, sample management and cross-functional coordination. The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical and able to quickly manage priorities in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Pay $26/hr

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and maintain weekly, monthly and seasonal business reports. Analyze performance by category, program, style and channel to identify emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate line plans, assortment sheets, buy files and style-color-size information throughout the seasonal process.
  • Enter purchase orders ensuring accuracy of style, color, size, quantity, cost, retail, delivery window and channel information.
  • Track on-order inventory, receipts and delivery status; proactively communicate delays, shortages or discrepancies.
  • Support seasonal milestone meetings, including line reviews, assortment reviews, buy reviews and business hindsight presentations.
  • Partner with Planning and Allocation to monitor inventory levels, size availability, replenishment needs and in-season opportunities.
  • Manage product samples and coordinate handoffs for buying meetings, e-commerce, marketing and visual merchandising needs.
  • Conduct competitive and market research related to product, pricing, promotions, trends and customer preferences.
  • Support ad hoc analyses, store visits and special projects based on business priorities.

Required Qualifications:
  • One to three years of experience in retail buying, merchandising, planning, allocation or a related function; previous Assistant Buyer or Merchandise Assistant experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of retail math, including sales, margin, sell-through, inventory, markdowns and weeks of supply.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and lookup formulas; proficiency in PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into clear findings and recommended actions.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across functions.
  • Proactive, adaptable and able to work independently with limited direction
