Job description

New Business Sales

Salary: $150,000 fixed salary / $300,000 OTE
Location: United States
Type: Remote

We are supporting a fast-growing energy technology company that is hiring a New Business Sales Energy Software candidate to own and grow new business across the United States.

This remote role is focused on selling enterprise energy management software into utilities, energy retailers, and energy solution providers. The company operates in the energy flexibility, Virtual Power Plant, distributed energy resource, and AI-driven energy optimisation space.

This opportunity is ideal for a commercially sharp enterprise sales professional with direct experience selling energy management software, VPP platforms, DER aggregation, flexibility solutions, cleantech SaaS, or grid services technology.

New Business Sales Energy Software Role Overview

As a New Business Sales professional, you will own the full new business sales cycle across the US market. You will be responsible for prospecting, building pipeline, developing senior relationships, shaping commercial propositions, and closing complex enterprise software deals.

You will work with senior decision-makers across utilities, energy retailers, trading, flexibility, innovation, operations, and C-suite functions. The role requires someone who understands the US energy market, can hold credible conversations around energy flexibility and distributed energy assets, and can operate effectively in a high-growth technology environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the full new business sales cycle from prospecting through to close.
  • Target utilities, energy retailers, solution providers, and energy companies across the United States.
  • Build and manage your own pipeline alongside inbound and marketing-generated leads.
  • Sell enterprise energy management software, VPP, flexibility, and DER optimisation solutions.
  • Develop relationships with senior decision-makers across trading, retail, flexibility, innovation, operations, and executive leadership.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, customer meetings, and commercial discussions.
  • Work closely with sales leadership and the wider commercial team to tailor propositions and build strong business cases.
  • Navigate complex enterprise buying processes across utilities and energy companies.
  • Apply a structured sales methodology such as MEDDPICC, Challenger, SPIN, or similar.
  • Provide accurate forecasting, pipeline reporting, and commercial market feedback.
  • Contribute to the go-to-market strategy for the US energy market.
Required Skills and Experience for this New Business Sales Energy Software Role
  • 5+ years of enterprise software sales experience.
  • Proven track record closing complex new business deals.
  • Must have sold energy management software.
  • Direct experience selling to US energy retailers, utilities, or energy companies.
  • Strong understanding of the US energy market, buyers, procurement processes, and commercial dynamics.
  • Established network across North American utilities, energy retailers, or energy technology companies.
  • Strong knowledge of energy flexibility, Virtual Power Plants, distributed energy resources, DER asset aggregation, and optimisation.
  • Ability to speak credibly with senior stakeholders such as Heads of Trading, Heads of Flexibility, innovation leaders, and C-suite executives.
  • Experience using a structured sales methodology such as MEDDPICC, Challenger, SPIN, or equivalent.
  • Comfortable working in an early-stage, high-growth, remote-first environment.
  • Strong forecasting, pipeline management, stakeholder engagement, and commercial negotiation skills.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience selling SaaS platforms in energy tech, cleantech, grid services, flexibility, or distributed energy markets.
  • Familiarity with US regulatory frameworks linked to Virtual Power Plants, demand flexibility, DER participation, and grid services.
  • Knowledge of FERC Order 2222 or relevant state-level flexibility programmes.
  • Experience with CRM platforms, ideally HubSpot.
  • Experience using sales engagement tools.
  • Background selling into complex technical or emerging software categories.
Why This Role

This is an opportunity to join a high-growth energy technology company operating in one of the most important areas of the energy transition.

You will be selling category-defining technology into a fast-growing US market, working with a highly technical team, and helping utilities and energy retailers unlock value from distributed energy assets such as batteries, solar, electric vehicles, and heat pumps.

The role also offers strong earning potential, career growth, and the opportunity to move into a leadership position as the North American business scales.
