About This Role
RGP is seeking a Principal Functional Consultant for Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) to join our growing ServiceNow Practice. This senior, client-facing role leads portfolio and work management transformation, functional solution design, and value realization across complex ServiceNow engagements.
The Principal Functional Consultant serves as a trusted advisor to executives, portfolio leaders, product owners, program and project leaders, enterprise Agile teams, resource managers, and delivery teams. This individual translates strategic objectives and operating-model requirements into scalable ServiceNow solutions that help clients prioritize investments, allocate resources, manage work, and measure business value.
Base Pay Range: $160,000 - $180,000
Other Compensation: Incentive Compensation

What You Will Work On
Client Advisory & Transformation Strategy
  • Lead executive interviews, discovery sessions, maturity assessments, and design workshops to define strategic portfolio management objectives, desired outcomes, priorities, and transformation roadmaps.
  • Assess current-state portfolio structures, governance models, investment processes, intake channels, funding practices, delivery methodologies, resource management, reporting, and supporting technologies.
  • Develop practical future-state recommendations that align strategy, investments, capacity, funding, delivery, and value measurement.
  • Advise clients on ServiceNow SPM leading practices and out-of-the-box-first design across Strategic Planning Workspace, Portfolio Planning, Demand Management, Project Portfolio Management, Project Workspace, Resource Management Workspace, Enterprise Agile Planning, Collaborative Work Management, financial planning, roadmaps, goals, and reporting and analytics.
  • Help clients establish scalable portfolio operating models encompassing demand intake, evaluation, prioritization, approval, funding, execution oversight, and benefits realization.

Functional Solution Design
  • Define the functional solution architecture in partnership with solution and technical architects, including portfolio structures, goals, investments, demands, programs, projects, products, resource plans, financial plans, work items, roadmaps, governance workflows, and performance measures.
  • Translate business needs into clear epics, user stories, process flows, functional requirements, acceptance criteria, decision logs, and traceable design documentation.
  • Design intake and prioritization models that support consistent evaluation of ideas, demands, projects, products, and other investment requests.
  • Define functional requirements for business cases, scoring models, approval paths, planning scenarios, funding decisions, cost and benefit tracking, resource capacity, allocations, and forecasting.
  • Design delivery models that support project, product, Agile, hybrid, and collaborative work while maintaining appropriate enterprise governance and visibility.
  • Facilitate design decisions by presenting alternatives, benefits, constraints, risks, and downstream impacts while protecting platform sustainability and upgradeability.
  • Define reporting, dashboards, key performance indicators, and value measures that provide visibility into portfolio health, investment performance, delivery progress, resource utilization, financial performance, and strategic alignment.

Delivery Leadership & Governance
  • Provide functional leadership throughout the engagement lifecycle-from discovery and strategy through design, configuration, testing, deployment, adoption, and optimization.
  • Partner with client product owners and delivery teams to establish and manage a prioritized backlog aligned with agreed business outcomes and implementation scope.
  • Guide configuration reviews, sprint demonstrations, functional testing, user acceptance testing, readiness activities, training, knowledge transfer, and adoption planning.
  • Ensure functional deliverables are complete, consistent, traceable, high quality, and aligned with client objectives and RGP delivery standards.
  • Provide functional governance across workstreams, proactively identify scope, process, data, and design risks, and partner with project leadership to resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, integration specialists, data specialists, UX practitioners, testing teams, change leaders, and client stakeholders to deliver cohesive solutions.
  • Define functional requirements for integrations with financial, human capital management, Agile delivery, timekeeping, collaboration, and other enterprise systems.

Adoption, Optimization & Value Realization
  • Establish adoption and value-realization measures, including intake effectiveness, prioritization quality, planning cycle time, delivery predictability, capacity utilization, investment performance, benefits realization, and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Help clients define governance bodies, decision rights, roles, responsibilities, operating cadences, and performance-review processes needed to sustain the SPM solution.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve data quality, increase adoption, reduce manual effort, and expand the business value of the ServiceNow platform.
  • Develop optimization roadmaps that sequence near-term improvements and longer-term maturity objectives based on business value, organizational readiness, dependencies, and platform capabilities.
  • Advise clients on the responsible use of Now Assist, AI-powered capabilities, automation, and emerging ServiceNow functionality within portfolio and work management processes.

Practice Leadership & Business Development
  • Build trusted relationships with client sponsors and stakeholders and communicate effectively with both executive and working-level audiences.
  • Mentor Business Process Consultants and other functional team members, providing coaching, design guidance, and quality oversight.
  • Contribute reusable methods, process models, accelerators, quality standards, demonstrations, and SPM thought leadership to the RGP ServiceNow Practice.
  • Support pre-sales discovery, solution-shaping workshops, demonstrations, estimates, proposals, presentations, and Statements of Work requiring SPM functional expertise.
  • Help identify opportunities for continued improvement, expanded platform adoption, and additional client value.

What You Will Bring
ServiceNow and SPM Experience
  • 5+ years of experience working with the ServiceNow platform, including significant functional leadership on SPM implementations or optimization programs in complex enterprise environments.
  • Broad knowledge of the ServiceNow SPM product suite, with demonstrated depth in several areas such as strategic planning, demand and portfolio management, project or product delivery, enterprise Agile planning, resource management, or financial planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business strategy, operating-model requirements, and portfolio-management practices into sustainable ServiceNow solutions.
  • Experience leading multi-stakeholder discovery, process redesign, requirements definition, functional design, testing, and adoption activities.

Portfolio and Work Management Experience
  • 8+ years of experience in portfolio management, program or project management, product management, enterprise Agile delivery, resource management, financial planning, business transformation, management consulting, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of portfolio operating models, including strategic alignment, investment planning, idea and demand intake, business cases, prioritization, governance, funding, capacity planning, execution oversight, and value realization.
  • Experience supporting project, product, Agile, hybrid, or collaborative work-management methodologies.
  • Knowledge of portfolio and delivery measures such as strategic alignment, return on investment, cost, benefit, risk, capacity, utilization, delivery performance, and realized value.
