Position Summary
The Research Operations Assistant provides direct support to the Research Operations Manager and contributes to the overall functioning of the MaineHealth Institute for Research. This role places strong emphasis on purchasing, safety compliance, and operational support across research facilities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Implement safety policies and procedures as directed by the Operations Manager or Safety Committee
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety and radiological regulations
  • Identify and help resolve safety concerns within MHIR
  • Adhere to all regulatory requirements, including handling hazardous drugs (receipt, storage, compounding, repackaging, dispensing, administration, and disposal)
  • Collect and package hazardous waste following established procedures
  • Manage purchasing and receiving processes; maintain purchasing databases and coordinate with the MaineHealth Purchasing Department
  • Perform general maintenance and operational support tasks (e.g., changing gas cylinders, replacing light bulbs, minor repairs, moving equipment)
  • Clean laboratory glassware and prepare reagents and solutions according to written protocols
  • Complete special projects assigned by the Research Operations Manager in a timely and effective manner
