Power BI Developer
*This is a 1-year contract position
*This is a Hybrid position – Local to Raleigh, NC (Triangle region) only, please
*On-site attendance may be required for equipment pickup, scheduled meetings, training sessions, and other business-related activities.
*We are not considering Corp-to-Corp (C2C) arrangements for this position

Description:

• The Power BI Developer will support the ongoing business intelligence, data visualization, and reporting needs of NCDOT and NCDMV customers.
• This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Power BI dashboards, reports, datasets, and enterprise reporting solutions that support data-driven decision-making across the organization.
• The position will work closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to deliver scalable reporting solutions, data models, and visualizations while ensuring adherence to reporting standards, governance practices, accessibility requirements, and enterprise data integration strategies.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, maintain, and support Power BI reports, dashboards, datasets, and visualization solutions.
• Create enterprise-ready data models, DAX calculations, and reporting solutions that support business operations and decision-making.
• Develop accessible and user-friendly dashboards that align with organizational reporting standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish reporting consistency, governance standards, and visualization best practices.
• Integrate Power BI solutions with enterprise data sources, including Databricks and other data platforms.
• Optimize dashboard and report performance to improve scalability and user experience.
• Support workspace administration, user access management, and data connection requests.
• Conduct training sessions, demonstrations, and webinars for business users on Power BI tools and reporting solutions.
• Troubleshoot reporting issues and provide ongoing customer support.
• Manage and resolve support requests through established ticketing processes.
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to business intelligence and reporting capabilities.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

• Strong expertise in Power BI development and dashboard design.
• Experience creating data models, datasets, and business intelligence solutions.
• Advanced knowledge of DAX calculations and Power Query.
• Experience developing complex reports and interactive dashboards.
• Strong SQL development and query optimization skills.
• Knowledge of data integration, ETL processes, and reporting best practices.
• Experience supporting end users and delivering customer-focused solutions.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of reporting governance, security, and workspace administration.

Preferred Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

• Experience with Microsoft 365 integrations and automation solutions.
• Experience using ServiceNow or similar ticket management platforms.
• Familiarity with enterprise reporting environments within government or large organizations.
• Experience delivering training and knowledge-sharing sessions to business users.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards for reporting and dashboard development.

Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience with Power BI data modeling and relationship design.
• Minimum 5 years of experience developing DAX calculations and measures.
• Minimum 5 years of experience using Power Query and ETL processes.
• Minimum 5 years of experience designing and developing complex reports and dashboards.
• Minimum 5 years of SQL querying, development, and performance tuning experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience applying performance optimization techniques for reporting solutions.
• Minimum 5 years of customer service and stakeholder support experience.
• Minimum 5 years of analytical thinking and problem-solving experience.
• Minimum 3 years of Power BI workspace administration and governance experience.
• Minimum 3 years of user access management and security administration experience.
• Minimum 2 years of experience integrating Power BI with Databricks and enterprise data platforms.

Education/Certification:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered.
• Microsoft Power BI certifications are preferred.
• Additional certifications related to data analytics, business intelligence, cloud technologies, or data engineering are a plus.
