Job Overview - Power BI Developer
HUB International is rapidly expanding our data product offerings and technological solutions and is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Power BI Developer, who is passionate about transforming data into actionable insights. In this role, you will build sophisticated reports and applications that serve thousands of users across our enterprise, working within established governance frameworks and enterprise standards to ensure consistency, quality, and reliability.
The Power BI Developer plays a critical role in translating business needs into visual analytics solutions that drive strategic decisions across the organization. You will work closely with product owners, quality assurance teams, engineers, and business stakeholders throughout HUB International to understand requirements, validate data, design intuitive user experiences, and deliver production-quality reports that meet enterprise standards for performance, security, and governance. You will work within Agile Scrum methodology using two-week iterative sprints, tracking your work in Azure DevOps and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver value incrementally.
This position offers the opportunity to work on meaningful business challenges while developing your technical depth in an enterprise environment. You will build complex calculations that implement insurance business rules, design efficient data models that handle large-scale datasets, optimize report performance to meet enterprise requirements, and create intuitive user experiences that make data accessible to business leaders. The Analytic Experience team operates within a mature governance framework with established standards for development, testing, version control, and deployment, allowing you to focus on solving analytical challenges rather than establishing foundational practices.
As a non-senior role with significant growth potential, this position provides clear pathways to advance your career within Enterprise Data and Analytics. You will work alongside experienced senior developers who actively share knowledge and mentor team members, participate in technical training on advanced Power BI features and emerging Microsoft Fabric capabilities, and follow established enterprise standards and best practices with opportunities to contribute to their evolution as you grow in the role. You will have opportunities to specialize in areas such as performance optimization, advanced data modeling, or governance standards, with clear progression toward senior technical roles. Your success will be measured not only by the quality of the analytics solutions you deliver but also by your contributions to team knowledge sharing and continuous improvement of development practices.
In This Role, You'll Get To:
  • Design and develop Power BI reports, apps, and paginated reports for business segments across HUB International,
  • Collaborate with Product Owners and business stakeholders throughout the organization to understand requirements, translate user stories and acceptance criteria into technical specifications, and design wireframes that map out report structure, visual placement, and user experience flows,
  • Develop reports following HUB International brand standards and enterprise governance requirements established by the Enterprise Data and Analytics organization,
  • Write and optimize DAX measures and calculations independently to support business metrics, KPIs, and analytical requirements,
  • Create complex calculations involving multiple table relationships, context transitions, time intelligence, and performance optimization, ensuring your DAX code is efficient, maintainable, and follows industry best practice,
  • Build Power Query transformations using M language to extract, shape, and integrate data from multiple sources,
  • Progress reports through the complete development lifecycles across multiple environments,
  • Conduct thorough testing of your reports, validating data accuracy against source systems, ensuring calculations produce correct results, verifying filter and slicer functionality, and confirming that performance meets acceptable standards,
  • Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, tracking your work in Azure DevOps using epics, features, product backlog items, tasks, and test cases,
  • Maintain version control and governance compliance across all analytics solutions,

We want someone who has:
  • Two to four years of professional Power BI development experience building production reports for business users
  • Proficiency in writing complex DAX including CALCULATE, filter context, iterator functions, time intelligence, and variables for optimization
  • Demonstrated expertise in Power Query and M language for data extraction, transformation, merging, error handling, and incremental refresh
  • Understanding of star schema design, fact and dimension relationships, cardinality, and cross-filter direction
  • Experience implementing row-level security and understanding of Import versus DirectQuery connection modes
  • Knowledge of Power BI architecture including workspace capacity, data gateways, and refresh scheduling
  • Experience with DAX Studio for query analysis, performance tuning, and calculation validation
  • Strong data visualization skills with understanding of effective visual types, color schemes, and information hierarchy
  • Working knowledge of SQL for data validation and source system verification
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and Azure DevOps for sprint management and documentation
  • Excellent communication skills for technical explanations and cross-functional collaboration
  • Self-directed learning approach with curiosity about new features and commitment to skill development
  • Understanding of enterprise data governance, security standards, and documentation requirements

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git and understanding of branching strategies, pull requests, and code review processes
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and experience working with dimensional models, slowly changing dimensions, and fact table grain
  • Knowledge of other Microsoft Power Platform components including Power Apps, Power Automate, or Power Query,
