Job description

Job Purpose

The Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst provides strategic and operational insights that drive organizational decision-making and performance improvement at Liliuokalani Trust (LT). The BI Analyst partners with leadership to identify information needs, perform requirements analysis, and translate business questions into analytical solutions. The BI Analyst demonstrates strong analytical thinking, storytelling ability, and a growth mindsetโ€”using data to influence strategy, identify opportunities, and support continuous improvement. The position designs, develops, and maintains dashboards and reports, manages reporting systems, conducts decision and industry analyses, and ensures that data-driven insights are accessible, accurate, and actionable.

Success in this role will be measured by:

  • Accuracy, timeliness, and adoption of analytic products;
  • Effectiveness of requirements analysis and alignment of data solutions with business needs;
  • Utilization of analytic products in strategic planning processes;
  • Clarity and impact of data storytelling in presentations; and
  • Ability to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities through data to strengthen the organization and improve outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities

Data Visualization and Reporting

  • Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, scorecards, and reports that effectively communicate key performance indicators (KPIs) and business trends.
  • Create reports with forward-looking analysis of the external landscape and implications for LT.
  • Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of reports to ensure consistency and reliability.
  • Apply data visualization best practices to create clear, accurate, and engaging visual reports.

Requirements and Decision Analysis

  • Conduct requirements analysis to gather and document business and technical needs for data projects.
  • Translate business objectives into measurable metrics, calculations, and useful visualizations.
  • Utilize decision analysis techniques (e.g., scenario modeling, sensitivity testing, cost-benefit analysis) to evaluate strategic options and guide decision-making.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure analytics solutions address critical business questions.

Community/Industry Research and Analysis

  • Conduct benchmarking and analysis to identify trends, performance gaps, and growth opportunities.
  • Synthesize external and internal data sources to provide leadership with insights into organizational positioning and emerging risks.
  • Present insights with dashboards and concise executive reports to inform strategic planning and business development initiatives.

Business Insights and Storytelling

  • Deliver actionable insights through data storytellingโ€”translating technical findings into narratives that drive understanding and alignment.
  • Present complex analyses to executive, managerial, and non-technical audiences with clarity and confidence.
  • Provide consultation to leadership teams on how to interpret data and apply insights into operational and strategic decisions.

Data Management and Governance

  • Partner with IT and data engineering teams to ensure data accuracy, quality, and accessibility.
  • Maintain metadata documentation, including data definitions, sources, and transformation logic.
  • Support compliance with data governance, privacy, and ethical data practices.
  • Contribute on data process improvements and automation initiatives to increase efficiency and reliability.

Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate across departments to align data reporting and analytics initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset by proactively seeking new tools, methods, and learning opportunities to enhance analytical capability.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects, committees, or strategic initiatives that require data-driven insights.

Other duties:

  • May contribute to project teams or special initiatives.
  • Collaborates with consultants or vendors as needed.
  • Procures and manages datasets and analytic insights as needed for their work products as needed.
  • Serves as a change agent to promote new ways of working and continuous improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Business, Engineering, Data Analytics, Economics, Statistics, or related fields.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or reporting roles, including experience using Tableau or similar reporting visualization tools.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) like Snowflake(preferred), MS SQL, or Google BigQuery.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and build strong, productive relationships within cross-functional teams.
  • Understanding of financial modeling, KPI frameworks, and performance management systems.
  • Experience with Python, R, SAS, or Excel for statistical or predictive analytics.

  • Proficiency in Tableau Desktop/Server/Cloud for interactive visualization design is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL or Python for querying and data preparation.
  • Solid understanding of data models, structures, and architecture.
  • Demonstrated experience with report management and lifecycle maintenance.
  • Proven ability to conduct requirements gathering, document specifications, and deliver analytical solutions that meet stakeholder needs.
  • Excellent storytelling, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Knowledge of decision analysis techniques and ability to perform scenario-based modeling.

Travel Requirements
