The Information Management team has an exciting opening for a Business Intelligence Analyst.This is a full-time permanent position.

The Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst partners with University Advancement stakeholders and leadership to transform complex data into meaningful and actionable insights that support strategic decision-making.

Reporting to the Director of Reporting Services, the BI Analyst will lead the development of complex reporting and analytics solutions within a Microsoft SQL Server environment. This includes consulting with stakeholders across Advancement to understand business needs, designing and delivering custom reports and dashboards, identifying opportunities for process improvement and advancing self-service reporting capabilities across the organization.

What You Will Do

Business Intelligence and Solutions Development (70%)

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across departments to understand their data needs and requirements, translating them into meaningful, thoughtful analytics solutions.
  • Utilize Tableau and/or Power BI to design, develop and maintain interactive dashboards, reports and visualizations that effectively communicate complex data trends, patterns and insights.
  • Lead project management activities, including gathering business requirements and authoring data needs and specifications for the Business Intelligence Developer.
  • Conduct comprehensive testing to ensure the accuracy and reliability of BI solutions.
  • Ensure all deliverables adhere to established design standards.
  • Effectively communicate BI solutions, best practices, functions, approach, limitations, accuracy and other details to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Perform thorough data analysis to identify trends, anomalies and opportunities for process improvements and optimization.
  • Develop and implement data-driven strategies to enhance business performance, optimize operational efficiency and drive innovation.

Business Intelligence Products Support (20%)

  • Respond to customer inquiries and questions regarding BI solutions supported by the team.
  • Work closely with the BI Developer to troubleshoot, triage and document modifications to current stored procedures and SQL scripts.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analyses and deep dives into specific business questions or problems, presenting findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Stay current on industry trends, best practices and emerging technologies in business intelligence, particularly Tableau and Power BI, to continuously improve processes and solutions.

Documentation and Other duties (10%)

  • Create and update end user documentation of BI solutions.
  • Develop and apply knowledge of University Advancement's organizational structure to support business and reporting needs.
  • Advise and inform user experience development.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND three years of professional experience as a Business Intelligence Analyst or in a similar role utilizing Tableau for data visualization and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing dashboards in Tableau and Power BI.
  • Proficiency in SQL for data manipulation, extraction and analysis from relational databases and experience using source control software.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts, data modeling and ETL processes.
  • Project management experience and the ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, cross-functional team, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.

What You Can Expect

  • Hybrid schedule of two days in the office with three days eligible for telework per week.
  • Cubicle/Open workspace environment which may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distractions.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours and to flex in-office days, as necessary, on short or limited notice.
