H2M architects + engineers seeks an Insurance Market Specialist in Melville, NY. We are looking for a skilled Business Development professional with extensive experience and a focus on developing long-term relationships within the insurance market sector. H2M delivers fast, defensible forensic evaluations and environmental assessments that help insurers resolve claims with confidence. We have over 90 years of experience and deep inhouse expertise across engineering, building consulting, and environmental services.

In this role, you will be responsible for achieving regional revenue objectives with Insurance carriers, in conjunction with company market plans. The Insurance Market Specialist is responsible for assisting in driving growth within the Insurance Market by promoting H2M’s industryleading expertise and securing new business opportunities. This role focuses on building a strong and sustainable client base through strategic relationship development, proactive outreach, and consistent market engagement.  

Successful candidate will strengthen relationships with existing clients; expand the firm’s presence within the insurance industry; and ensure a high level of client satisfaction. Reporting to the Deputy Market Director and Market Director, the Business Development Manager exercises initiative, independent judgment, and sound decisionmaking.

Key Responsibilities

The Insurance Market Specialist will work directly with the Market Director and discipline leaders to:

  • Assist in developing and implementing a tactical sales/capture plan for insurance market sector with input from H2M’s Insurance Market Director and key company personnel, with the objective to increase client base, grow revenue and profitability and expand market share.
  • Support development of strategic teaming relationships with firms in insurance markets as directed by the Insurance Market Director.
  • Assist in the determination and development of insurance market penetration strategies geographically.

Business Development Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities will include market research, new business development and marketing communications.
  • Attend appropriate trade shows and industry social events creating greater exposure, strengthening the company’s branding/image. Occasionally requiring afterhours participation and travel.
  • Provide assistance to ensure that appropriate marketing and presentation materials effectively target slated market.
  • Committed to a varied work schedule and travel based on potential client needs.
  • Generate a Quarterly Sales Report of Activities for the Insurance Market Director.
  • Maintain contacts and BD activities in the company CRM, Deltek, database.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business or a related field.
  • Must have 5+ years of demonstrated sales experience in professional level experience in consultative sales, business development, client relationship management and/or account management in an insurance/forensic consulting field (forensic evaluations and environmental assessments).
  • A proactive selfstarter who excels at multitasking and can work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to consistently prospect for new sources of business [insurance market] and make cold calls as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to launch and achieve challenging sales goals and successfully manage accounts within the designated region.
  • Able to develop a strong rapport with clients and maintain strong working relationships.

The salary range for this position is between $100,000 to $150,000 annually.

This position requires up to 40% travel. Regular travel within the tri-state area is expected, along with occasional outofarea and overnight trips to support client relationships, industry events, and business development initiatives. Periods of increased workload, client demand, or business travel may require additional hours, and the employee is expected to work the necessary overtime to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
