Job Description

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Austin Technical Center or GM Global Technical Center three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business if more than 3 days].

The Role

At General Motors, we're revolutionizing decision-making through cutting-edge business analytics platforms. Our business analytics platform engineering team is at the forefront of this transformation, leveraging the power of Azure and AWS to deliver enterprise-grade solutions that provide insights to everyone across the company.

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our data-driven culture. You'll be responsible for architecting, building, and maintaining state-of-the-art analytics platforms including Power BI Premium on Azure Fabric, Tableau Analytics on AWS, and Cognos Analytics on Azure Red Hat OpenShift (ARO) to name a few.

This is more than just a technical role - it's an opportunity to drive innovation and empower thousands of users with self-serve capabilities and frictionless experiences. You'll be at the helm of developing these platforms as products, ensuring end-to-end engineering excellence and setting new standards in developer productivity.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of business analytics platforms, driving innovation and efficiency in data-driven decision-making across the organization.

If you're passionate about cloud technologies, thrive on complex challenges, and want to make a tangible impact on a global scale, we want you on our team. Join us in building the future of business analytics platforms at GM.

What You'll Do
  • Build and evolve a futureready, enterprisescale business analytics platform using a proven threeplane architecture with an AIenabled experience layer for user support and operational intelligence, a metadata and configuration driven control layer, and an IaC and API driven execution layer supporting Power BI, Cognos, and Tableau, while enabling endtoend automation of user requests through Slack integrations and modern platform engineering practices.
  • Design and develop scalable, secure, and reliable analytics platforms on Azure and AWS, leveraging container technologies for efficient application deployment and management.
  • BI platforms administration, management and operations, including data modeling and report authoring best practices using Power BI, Tableau, and Cognos.
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, implement GitOps workflows, and establish CI/CD pipelines for platform components and applications.
  • Develop API integration, data extraction, transformation, and loading to Databricks DB SQL
  • Implement comprehensive DevSecOps practices, including regular security audits and vulnerability mitigation.
  • Establish robust observability solutions, implement disaster recovery and high availability designs to ensure platform reliability.
  • Manage identity and access management, implement security compliance measures including password/token rotations and key vault integration.
  • Implement Gateway connections for accessing on-premises sources, optimizing platform performance and cost-efficiency.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, demonstrate customer focus, and drive results in ambiguous project scenarios.
  • Implement Policy as Code and Compliance as Code to automate policy enforcement, ensure consistent governance, and compliance with industry standards & regulations.
  • Influence change, naturally accept ownership for project deliverables, explore opportunities to add value to job responsibilities
  • Self-starter with the ability to influence others, working in teams and independently with leaders and stakeholders across many different organizations within Software and Services
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Strong handson experience designing, implementing, and operating AI solutions built on large language models and agent-based workflows, with practical exposure to enterprise platforms such as Glean, Databricks Genie, and Microsoft Copilot. Proven ability to integrate AI agents with data platforms, security and compliance frameworks, and day to day operational workflows to deliver scalable, reliable, and business focused outcomes
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, container orchestration technologies and cloud operations for business analytics platforms
