Business Analysis Associate information

What is a business analysis associate?

A Business Analysis Associate is an entry-level professional who supports business analysts and project teams in identifying business needs, analyzing processes, and recommending solutions to improve efficiency and achieve organizational goals. They gather and document requirements, assist in data analysis, and help communicate findings to stakeholders. This role often involves working closely with different departments to ensure that business objectives are clearly understood and met through effective solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a business analysis associate?

To thrive as a Business Analysis Associate, you need strong analytical skills, business acumen, and a relevant degree such as business, finance, or information systems. Familiarity with data analysis tools (like Excel, SQL, or Tableau) and experience with business process modeling or requirements management software are commonly expected. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management abilities help you translate complex data into actionable insights and foster collaboration. These skills ensure effective identification of business needs, drive process improvements, and support successful project outcomes.

What are some common challenges faced by business analysis associates when working with cross-functional teams?

Business Analysis Associates often collaborate with various departments, such as IT, finance, and operations, to gather requirements and facilitate project success. A common challenge is ensuring clear and consistent communication among team members who may have different priorities, technical backgrounds, or levels of understanding. Balancing stakeholder interests, managing conflicting requirements, and translating business needs into actionable solutions are daily hurdles. Developing strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving can help overcome these challenges and foster successful collaboration.

Description

General Purpose of Job

As a Senior BI Developer, you'll build and manage data pipelines, architect data stores, and deliver reports and dashboards for internal and external clients. As a Data & Analytics technologist, you'll also mentor the Data Services team and champion modern data warehousing, durable systems, and industry best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities (Daily and Monthly)

Pipelines & Integration

  • Design, build, and maintain robust ELT/ETL pipelines (SSIS, SQL Agent) that ingest from Hadoop, flat files, Excel, and APIs - engineered for reliability, auto-recovery, and observability.
  • Implement layered data flow (staging ? integration ? presentation) with automated data-quality checks and clear documentation of sources, transformations, and lineage.

Data Warehousing

  • Design and build data warehouses and subject-area marts using dimensional modeling and star schemas - well-formed facts and dimensions, conformed dimensions, and deliberate slowly changing dimension strategies.
  • Establish a single source of truth with shared definitions, modeling standards, and warehouse-level data quality, so metrics stay consistent as the platform grows.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Build and maintain reports and dashboards in SSRS and Power BI (semantic models, DAX, row-level security, gateways), feeding Azure/SharePoint Lists and Dynamics CRM.
  • Source reporting from the warehouse, define each metric once, and curate a maintainable, certified reporting catalog.

Planning & Leadership

  • Translate business requirements into scoped, estimated work; manage dependencies and delivery risk; and report progress in sprint ceremonies.
  • Mentor the Data Services team and lead adoption of best practices across pipelines, modeling, and reporting.

Requirements

Educational

  • Associate degree preferred
  • Bachelor's degree preferred

Professional

  • Minimum eight years' experience in Data & Analytics

  • Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams

Additional Requirements: Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Minimum 8 years in Data & Analytics; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Advanced T-SQL (including query optimization), stored procedures, and views on Microsoft SQL Server - including Azure SQL Managed Instance and Azure SQL Database.
  • Advanced SSIS, SQL Agent, and SSRS; advanced dimensional modeling and star schema design; working knowledge of SSAS.
  • Advanced Power BI Desktop; Power BI Report Builder a plus.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, Data Factory, OneLake, Data Warehouse, and Purview governance.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and solid logic and math skills.
  • Experience in a financial environment and exposure to Agile (Kanban) a plus.
