School Bus/Van Driver

Founded in 1888, The Baldwin School is an all-girls college preparatory, independent day school, PreK-Grade 12, dedicated to a tradition of excellence in education. The Baldwin School is seeking a part-time Bus Driver to transport students to and from multiple programs. Successful candidates will have an understanding of and appreciation for girls' education.

Responsibilities:

  • Transportation:
    • Operating a school bus or other designated vehicle to transport students along assigned routes.
    • Adhering to a strict schedule and route, ensuring timely arrival at designated stops.
  • Safety:
    • Conducting pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure safety and functionality.
    • Enforce safety regulations for students entering, exiting, and traveling on the bus.
    • Performing emergency evacuations when necessary.
    • Maintaining a clean and well-maintained bus, including fueling and basic upkeep.
    • Reporting any accidents, incidents, or mechanical problems to the appropriate personnel.
  • Student Management:
    • Supervising students during boarding, disembarking, and while on the bus.
    • Enforcing rules and maintaining discipline, reporting behavioral issues to school administrators, and communicating with parents when necessary.
    • Assisting students with disabilities, including those who use wheelchairs, and ensuring their safe boarding and seating arrangements.
  • Communication:
    • Communicating with school faculty/staff and transportation personnel regarding student behavior, routes, and other relevant information.
    • Providing excellent customer service to students and their families.
  • Other Duties:
  • Completing required paperwork, such as route sheets, time cards, and accident reports.
    • Attending training sessions to stay updated on safety regulations and best practices.
    • May be required to assist with loading and unloading equipment, school bags, or other items.

Required Qualifications Include:

  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements (e.g., school bus, passenger).
  • Clean driving record.
  • Pass a background check.
  • Pass a physical exam and drug test.
  • Experience driving a bus or large vehicle (preferred).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain discipline and manage student behavior.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations.
