**This is a temporary day-to-day position.**
Due to the high volume of applications, only qualified candidates will be contacted as needed.
To be considered as qualified, your application must be COMPLETE and contain the following:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License required.
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Must provide a seven (7) year motor vehicle report (MVR). Major traffic citations may exclude consideration.
  • Successful completion and clearance of pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • Successful completion and clearance of criminal background and fingerprinting requirements.
  • Successful completion and clearance of a pre-employment physical examination and physical examination every three (3) years thereafter, in accordance with GaDOE requirements.
  • Must successfully complete the Georgia Department of Education Alternative Vehicle Driver Training Program or other GaDOE-approved transportation training program.
  • Must participate in required random drug and alcohol testing programs and comply with all state and district transportation requirements.

Title: Substitute Bus Driver(Alternative Student Driver)

In the absence of the regular school bus driver, transports students to and from the assigned education center, controls passenger behavior, and maintains safe operation of the assigned bus on an as-needed basis.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are representative of this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Safely transports students to and from school, school-related activities, and other approved locations using an alternative transportation vehicle.
  • Utilizes assigned technology platforms, tablets, GPS, and communication devices to manage routes, document trips, and communicate with Transportation staff.
  • Conducts and documents pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in accordance with district and Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) requirements.
  • Maintains accurate vehicle logs, mileage records, inspection reports, and transportation documentation.
  • Provides a safe, positive, and professional environment for students during transport.
  • Maintains orderly student conduct and follows district procedures for addressing behavioral concerns.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with students, parents, school personnel, and the public.
  • Attends all required transportation, safety, and professional development training sessions.
  • Ensures assigned vehicle receives routine maintenance and service according to district schedules and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of assigned vehicles.
  • Utilizes GPS and ride-tracking technology as required by district and state regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
