Job description

REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience Desired: None. One year of driving oversized vehicles preferred.
Physical Requirements: Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, walking, and standing. Frequent bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, stooping, turning, and crouching and repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs intermittently. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
Other Requirements: Current, valid South Dakota Commercial Driver's License and good driving record. Ability to pass a Department of Transportation physical. Successful completion of annual Bus Driver Training. Must be acceptable to the insurance company. Ability to work cooperatively and congenially with others, to follow written and verbal directions. Adhere to requirements within the Bus Driver Handbook. Adhere to District's Policies and Procedures.
REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor.
RECEIVES GUDIANCE FROM: Superintendent/Building Principal.
WORKS WITH: Students, principals, certified and classified staff.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: School calendar year. Classified handbook applies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
  1. Transports students to and from school or school activities. Responsible for behavior management of students; reports behavior issues to Transportation Supervisor/Administration.
  2. Conducts bus inspection on bus daily; reports malfunction or potential problems to Transportation Supervisor.
  3. Responsible for the cleanliness of assigned vehicle.
  4. Responsible for fueling assigned vehicle.
  5. Completes required reporting and paperwork.
  6. Works with Transportation Supervisor in making arrangements for substitute drivers.
  7. Promotes a positive image of the West Central School District.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

A post-offer criminal background check is required.
