Job Title

School Bus Driver/Substitute Bus Driver

Qualifications
  • High school graduate
  • Compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Support personnel application form
  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger and S-endorsement
  • Valid Alabama school bus driver's certificate
  • Pass D.O.T. examination and meet medical requirements
  • Pass drug and alcohol test and submit to fingerprinting and background check
  • Clean and neat appearance
Reports To

Transportation Director/Principals

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Attend instructional meetings and workshops
  • Obey all traffic laws
  • Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses
  • Maintain order and report disciplinary problems
  • Keep assigned bus clean
  • Adhere to assigned schedule
  • Check bus before each operation for mechanical defects
  • Notify proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness
  • Discharge students only at authorized stops
  • Report all accidents and complete required reports
  • Adhere to regulations against use of tobacco, drugs, and alcohol
  • Report violent, disruptive incidents to principal
  • Report all absences
  • Act courteously at all times
  • Deplete brake pressure upon leaving the bus
  • Walk the aisle before leaving the bus after each trip
  • Activate lights when loading and unloading students
  • Perform reasonable job and related duties as requested
Terms of Employment

Regular school term of 184 days or for the remainder of the school year if hired after the first day of school. Salary is established by the Scottsboro City Schools School Bus Driver/Substitute Driver Salary Schedule.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board regarding the evaluation of support personnel.
