Job description

Title: School Bus Driver
Reports to: Director of Athletics & Transportation Manager
Direct Reports: N/A
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
FTE: Full-Time/10-month (32 hours/week)
Rate of Pay: $32.00/hour & Benefits

Job Summary:
Under general supervision, the School Bus Driver drives a school bus for field trips, after school athletic events, and after sports activity bus on prescribed routes as assigned by the Transportation Manager. Assist with vehicle maintenance. The position will generally work from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on school days. A general workday is as follows:
  • 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Afternoon field trips
  • 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. After school athletic events
  • 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. After sports activity bus route
Full-time drivers are expected to drive on occasional weekends or overnight trips as needed. There will be an assigned supervisor on each bus trip to monitor students.
UPrep adheres to all federal and state regulations, ensuring you receive all required rest breaks, meal periods, and applicable leave time.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Drives a bus daily for afternoon and after school activities as assigned
  • Drives the late afternoon activity bus route 5:30-7:00pm
  • Drives weekends and long trips as scheduled within the 32-hour work week.
  • Follows established safety procedures
  • Performs a pre-trip safety/damage inspection of bus before each drive
  • Monitors operating conditions of bus and reports needed servicing and/or repairs to Transportation manager and Director of Facilities
  • Performs basic maintenance tasks such as checking oil, securing mirrors, changing light bulbs, etc.
  • Fuels vehicles as needed
  • Helps maintain bus fleet by detail cleaning including washing bus exteriors, mopping interiors and washing windows regularly
  • Maintains bus parking and loading areas including leaf blowing, picking up trash, etc.
  • Attends training programs, testing programs, first aid courses, refresher courses and other meeting as scheduled
  • Complies with state laws, rules and regulations and school policies relative to student transportation
  • Conducts oneself in the best interest of students and in support of the school's mission statement.
  • Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school's documents
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education, Certifications & Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED preferred
  • Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger endorsement and Air Brake restriction removed required
  • Clean driving record required
  • Valid Washington State Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certificate required
  • Experience working with kids preferred
  • School Bus (S) endorsement preferred
  • Experience as a commercial or school bus driver preferred

  • Local travel is required
