JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB
The position is responsible for the leadership and development of the Systems Engineering Product Verification team. The team is accountable for final integration and verification of Starkey Products. This role coordinates and leads the cross functional system and product level verification activities, to ensure that the final products meet their specified requirements. Must possess the vision, ability, passion, persistence, communication skills, and team building skills necessary to maintain and mature Systems Engineering Product Verification excellence. This position is responsible for the day-to-day management of the department regarding staff development, resource allocation, task and process management, budget, and performance tracking. Responsible for ensuring that the department is state-of-the-art from both a skill and process perspective.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS
  • Manage department performance, quality, and costs.
    • In coordination with leadership, assist in definition of department long term strategy, as well as annual objectives.
    • Develop and deploy staffing and verification strategies that ensure completion of product verification activities to meet corporate and program milestones.
    • Accountable for the quality and timeliness of Global New Product Introduction (G-NPI) and department deliverables.
    • Manage department budget labor, expense, and capital needs. Monitor and adjust expenses.
    • Ensure Product Verification department goals and objectives support long term strategy of the Systems Engineering and overall Starkey Research and Development organizations.
  • Manage hiring, development, mentoring, and motivation of staff.
    • Maintain appropriate job descriptions for all staff.
    • Recruit and maintain an optimum mix of personnel competence to meet business needs efficiently and effectively.
    • Identify and execute departmental and individual training on processes, skills, and tools.
    • Complete annual performance and salary reviews on time.
    • Ensure all staff have individual development goals that align with business needs.
    • Identify and mentor individuals to succeed in critical technical and supervisory positions within the department.
    • Discuss and establish a career track with each employee. Actively monitor and support their progress.
    • Provide motivational leadership, maintain a positive attitude, and keep staff engagement and morale high.
  • Perform effective resource management.
    • Oversee daily operations, organize workflow, establish priorities, and manage risk.
    • Manage resource allocations in alignment with business needs. Mitigate the impact of resource constraints.
    • Mange staff PTO requests in a timely manner.
    • Promote decision making at the lowest appropriate level.
    • Resolve staff conflicts promptly and diplomatically.
    • Manage staff with a professional and tactful demeanor.
    • Ensure all staff adhere to the values and standards set forth in the Starkey Code of Conduct.
  • Develop and continuously improve department processes.
    • Develop, document, and continuously improve intra-department processes.
    • Collaborate on the definition and improvement of inter-department processes.
    • Manage department activities and processes in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Represent the department to other departments and teams within R&D.
    • Interface with R&D and business facing teams and develop strong interdepartmental collaboration and teamwork.
    • Attend and actively participate in any assigned council roles.
    • Actively perform program/project Sponsor duties as assigned and help lead the teams to success or fast failure.
    • Communicate any critical project, process, or personnel issues to the Director of Systems Engineering in a timely manner.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in systems Engineering or a related field required
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field preferred.

Experience
  • Five to ten years of systems engineering or product integration and verification, or a related field at a senior level in a product development environment required; hearing industry, medical device industry, or high-tech industry experience preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent management experience desired.

Knowledge / Technical Requirements
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of Test Automation strategies and deployment.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Hearing Aid systems.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MSOffice.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of product development methods and best practices.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Systems Engineering principles and best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of Systems Integration and Systems Verification principles and best practices.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The target pay rate for this position is between $126,000 - $163,000 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include: geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is eligible for a bonus based upon performance results. There is no guarantee of payout.
