Job description

Vast is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Security Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and operation of physical security systems across Vast facilities. Reporting to the Manager, Physical Security Systems & Technology, this role is a critical execution-level position responsible for keeping security infrastructure operational, reliable, and compliant across multiple sites.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position based at Vast's Long Beach, California location, with regular work across Southern California facilities.

Responsibilities: 

Physical Security Systems Installation & Maintenance

  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and servicing of:
    • Access control systems (badge readers, controllers, door hardware, secure zones)
    • Video surveillance systems (IP cameras, VMS platforms, mounts, alignment)
    • Visitor management systems
    • Intrusion detection and sensor systems
    • Door locking mechanisms and related security hardware
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs to ensure systems remain operational and online
  • Perform firmware updates, basic configuration changes, and system health checks as directed

Troubleshooting & Operational Support

  • Troubleshoot and service low-voltage security systems, including:
    • Offline or malfunctioning cameras, readers, sensors, or panels
    • Access issues related to door hardware or reader function
  • Support alarm testing, system validation, and acceptance testing
  • Assist with incident response and forensic requests by retrieving video, access logs, and system data as directed

Project Support & Site Work

  • Support security technology projects across multiple Vast sites, including:
    • Assisting with retrofit work, expansions, and new deployments
    • Managing assigned installation timelines and reporting progress and expectations to leadership
  • Review architectural plans and perform site walks to:
    • Identify device placement ("spots and dots")
    • Update or mark plans for current and future deployments
  • Assist with building security cores and restricted-access areas

Coordination, Documentation & Inventory

  • Communicate effectively with:
    • Protect team members
    • Facilities, IT, and other internal stakeholders
  • Track work in an organized and timely manner, including preventative maintenance tasks and service activities
  • Maintain accurate documentation, service records, and device inventories
  • Maintain adequate on-site stockpiles of security equipment and spare parts

Vendor & Partner Support

  • Maintain working relationships with external vendors and integrators
  • Assist with scheduling vendor work when internal resources are insufficient or specialized support is required
  • Support vendor oversight during installations or service visits

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience installing and maintaining physical security systems
  • High school diploma or GED required

Physical & Work Requirements:

  • Ability to lift at least 30 pounds
  • Ability to work on ladders and scissor lifts
  • Willingness to occasionally work in small or confined spaces
  • Comfortable working in office, industrial, and construction-adjacent environments

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Security cameras and VMS platforms
    • Access control systems
    • Door and locking hardware

  • Experience with low-voltage wiring and field hardware installation.
