REQUIREMENTS:
  • Fingerprint/background screening required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous security, military, law enforcement, school safety, or related experience preferred
  • Experience working with youth or in educational settings is preferred
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF SAFETY AND SECURITY
JOB DESCRIPTION: The following statements of essential functions and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending on building assignment and other factors determined with supervisor and/or building principal.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Monitor entrances and exits at Manitou Springs High School/SILC, verifying visitor access and ensuring adherence to security protocols.
  • Monitor surveillance systems, alarms, and other security equipment.
  • Provide directions and assistance to students, staff, visitors, and community members.
  • Respond promptly to security concerns, emergencies, disturbances, and safety incidents.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness, drills, evacuations, and crisis response procedures.
  • Observe and document incidents, accidents, and unusual occurrences.
  • Complete accurate incident reports.
  • Report violations of organizational policies and procedures to appropriate personnel.
  • Build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate security expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with administrators, employees, emergency responders, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Conduct routine security inspections and report hazards, maintenance concerns, or suspicious activity when needed.
  • Assist with crowd management and security at special events, athletic contests, performances, and community activities when needed.
  • Ensure facilities are secured according to established procedures when needed.
  • Knowledge of basic security practices and emergency response procedures.
  • Strong observation, problem-solving, and conflict de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in stressful situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Proficiency with basic technology, including email, security systems, and incident reporting software.
  • Patrol assigned buildings, grounds, parking lots, and other designated areas to deter unauthorized activity and maintain a safe environment when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Ability to walk, stand, and patrol (when needed) for extended periods.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and navigate stairs, hallways, and outdoor terrain.
  • May include evening, weekend, holiday, and special event assignments.
  • Frequent interaction with students, staff, visitors, and community members.
  • Exposure to a variety of environmental conditions and potentially stressful situations.
