Centennial Recreation Complex

Building Operations Lead

Job Summary: The Building Operations Lead monitors activity at the Centennial Recreation Complex, and facilitates safe participation in recreation programs and rental events. The Building Operations Lead cultivates an atmosphere of compliance with all Park District guidelines, and provides exceptional customer service by maintaining a thorough understanding of programs and events. An essential requirement for this position is the ability to make sound decisions autonomously.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Complete routine ice maintenance during each shift, including utilization of the Zamboni machine to resurface ice rinks
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment by sweeping regularly and tending to trash as needed
  • Communicate facility expectations with patrons
  • Monitor public skate, freestyle skate, hockey practices and other activities to ensure compliance with Park District guidelines
  • Use online resources to confirm activity schedules and verify enrollment
  • Assist in all ice rink daily operations and sales
  • Support customer service staff by providing information to the public regarding programming at the Centennial Recreation Complex and throughout the District
  • Support customer service staff by greeting customers, in-person and on the phone, with a welcoming and friendly attitude and providing solution-oriented service
  • Perform opening and closing duties diligently and safely
  • Actively support the agencys risk management protocol that will effectively control and reduce accidents
  • Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Safety Committee
  • Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions to the immediate supervisor
  • Attend and participate in required trainings
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs

Required Skills/Abilities (Technology, Mathematical, Language):

  • Must be knowledgeable about Wilmette Park Districts facilities, staff, events and activities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, schedules and procedural manuals
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Basic computer/technology skills with the ability to learn cursory functions of the registration software

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two (2) years related experience preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years of age

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Occasionally works in high precarious places, in outside weather conditions and is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat and risk of electrical shock
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms, push, pull, carry and repeatedly stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance
  • The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, regularly move and/or lift 50 pounds and occasionally move and/or lift 100 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
