Job description

The Outside Sales Representative employee takes the initiative to represent our company well in the community and sell building materials. This position is responsible for generating and closing profitable sales of quality wholesale building products within the building products dealer community. Market our products to contractors, builders, and installers for the purpose of generating pull-through sales. Also develop and provide, on a territory basis, selling aids for multiple business segments for use by branch sales personnel in sales presentations throughout the territory. Primary objectives include increasing the line volume and profitability while maintaining product and customer diversity.


Duties/Responsibilities include the following:

  • Direct, face-to-face sales targeting building materials dealers.
  • Strong knowledge of all product lines and are convincing in presenting quality, value, characteristics, and benefits.
  • Possess the ability to prepare and present bids, proposals, and estimates.
  • Analyze and determine sales area opportunities for exploration, saturation, and marketing focus.
  • Aggressively prospect, cold call, identify, and develop new clients while nurturing existing accounts.
  • Identify and develop solutions, demonstrating the ability to routinely sell and close business.
  • Establish and maintain a regular schedule of area client and prospect visits; seek out opportunities, develop area awareness of you, your business, and products.
  • Conduct business with the highest degree of integrity and proactively address all customer concerns.
  • Must abide by all safety requirements and wear appropriate PPE when visiting job sites and/or in production areas.
  • Meet/review with management and sales staff to review the status of customer accounts.
  • Effectively use available vendor sales teams to maximize coverage in assigned territory.
  • Assist with Dealer, Builder, and employee training and technical assistance.
  • Make joint pull-through calls with dealers’ sales personnel.
  • Perform Job-Site visits as necessary.
  • Implement and ensure pull-through efforts come through SFP
  • Prospect and develop relationships with:
  • Production and Custom builders
  • Specifiers
  • Architects
  • Decision makers at high exposure projects
  • Territory Associations:
  • Maintain at least 1 active membership.
  • Have a regular presence either personally or with vendor reps in the HBMA, NADRA, Remodeler, and Roofing associations throughout your territory.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to define problems; collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram formats and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.


Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven sales experience and/or marketing experience.
  • Wholesale Lumber industry knowledge.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office/Excel and Outlook
  • Ability and willingness to travel for trade shows, demonstrations, and client meetings.


Physical Requirements:

  • Work is conducted in an office/field setting with sedentary to moderate physical effort associated with using a computer, copier, etc.
  • Ability to walk, sit, or stand for extended periods of time
  • May be required to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 25 pounds
