Job description

Are you passionate about building maintenance and enjoy tackling a variety of challenges every day? Do you want to work in an environment where your independence, technical expertise, and organizational skills will make a real difference? We are looking for a Building Maintenance Officer to ensure the smooth operation, safety, and long-term sustainability of our facilities. This is a full-time, permanent position (35 hours per week) offering the opportunity to play a key role in the management and maintenance of a building and its infrastructure.


Your Role

As Building Maintenance Manager, you will serve as the primary point of contact for planning, coordinating, and overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance activities. In this role, you will help ensure a safe, functional, and comfortable environment for all occupants.

Position Overview

  • Ensure the maintenance, proper operation, repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
  • Perform a variety of plumbing tasks, minor electrical repairs, carpentry work, and exterior building maintenance.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor a preventive maintenance program for all building systems and equipment.
  • Ensure that all safety systems and equipment remain operational and compliant with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Plan, coordinate, supervise, and inspect work performed by external contractors and service providers.
  • Manage service contracts, requests for proposals (RFPs), and vendor relationships.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the building maintenance budget.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of parts, tools, and materials to ensure timely repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Schedule maintenance work to minimize disruption to business operations.
  • Prepare, present, and justify unforeseen maintenance expenses to management.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations to ensure business continuity and the safety of occupants.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to enhance the efficiency, safety, and comfort of building facilities.


Work Conditions

  • A 35-hour work week, day shift from Monday through Friday, with a very early morning start time.
  • Occasional availability in the evenings or during emergencies.
  • Work that combines indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Occasional lifting and handling of heavy loads, including furniture, boxes, equipment, and mechanical parts.
  • Availability to provide remote telephone support outside regular working hours, as required.

  • College diploma (AEC) in Building Engineering Technology (Building Mechanics), Industrial Maintenance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a similar position, preferably in building maintenance and mechanical systems.
  • Solid knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and applicable building codes.
  • Excellent practical skills in mechanical systems, plumbing, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues, carry out routine repairs, and coordinate maintenance activities independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
