Job description

WDP is an employee-owned, small business certified company. Our Manassas headquarters welcomes an experienced Building Enclosure Consultant to join our specialized team of engineers and architects. 2-5 years of experience with building enclosure systems, along with an understanding of the principles of heat, air, moisture, and vapor control within enclosure materials and assemblies is key knowledge for this role. Prior experience investigating or detailing windows, doors, curtainwalls, storefronts, skylights, masonry, metal and composite panels, exterior cladding systems, roofing, and waterproofing systems is required. The successful candidate will assist with various tasks for multiple small to medium-sized projects concurrently.
The Building Enclosure Consultant will:
  • Fill various roles and responsibilities including Enclosure Design Consultant, Building Enclosure Commissioning Specialist (BECxS), and Enclosure Forensic Consultant.
  • Apply creative problem-solving to address building performance issues.
  • Communicate with clients and project teams when requested, manage small projects.
  • Assist with fee proposals for various building enclosure services for a range of building types and clients (Architects, Contractors, Facility Owners/Managers).
  • Assist with project activities including peer reviews, contract document development (drawings and specifications) and report writing to deliver precise and timely work products.
  • Perform field investigations and testing of building envelope components, collect data and samples. Includes assessing existing building problems and field testing of new work. Comply with AAMA and ASTM standards.
  • Perform building enclosure condition assessments including existing roofs, walls, and fenestration systems.
  • Research and review contemporary and historic drawings, design documents, codes, and guidelines to enable analysis and repair design.
  • Research building enclosure materials and systems, including coordination with Manufacturer Representatives, in support of investigations and designs.
  • Perform construction administration tasks including submittal reviews, RFI responses, and site observations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and project teams with opportunities to contribute to presentations and meetings.
  • Be encouraged to contribute to office goals and be involved in interoffice committees.
  • Be encouraged to contribute to industry progression via membership/participation in relevant professional organizations, such as ASTM and IIBEC.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, architecture, or a similar field.
  • Path to becoming registered is required with 2-5 years of direct experience. Professional Engineer (P.E.), Registered Architect (R.A.), or other relevant industry certifications are preferred.
  • Effective technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Software: MS Office, Bluebeam or Acrobat., SketchUp, Revit, AutoCAD a plus.
  • Travel is a requirement for this position. Occasionally, evening or weekend work may be required.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving history over the past 3 years.
  • United States work authorization.
