Job description

The Building Envelope Specialist Description

Work alongside project managers and engineers with various commissioning and envelope testing tasks. This position involves both clerical work in an office setting and fieldwork on job sites, providing site observations and field reports, conducting‑witnessing functional tests from detailed procedures, and handling office tasks such as filing project documents, writing specifications, developing testing procedures, and sending email correspondence. The role requires frequent travel throughout CT, MA, and New England, as well as periodic long‑distance travel within the United States. The Building Envelope Specialist shall plan, develop, coordinate and direct consulting/commissioning activities for projects of varying scope and size following established Sustainable Engineering Solutions standards and maintaining exemplary client service.

Tasks
  • Review building design and construction documents, including drawings and specifications, to understand design intent, construction requirements, and operational needs.
  • Direct and ensure timely execution of various engineering documents, including field observation reports, construction checklists, testing documents, deficiency notices, general and email correspondence, and final project reports.
  • Direct and assist engineers in fieldwork on construction project sites, overseeing and directing functional testing of building envelope systems.
  • Lead meetings with project team members.
  • Maintain ownership for client interaction and satisfaction.
  • Lead, train, and mentor assigned engineers and assist with career development and tracking.
  • Practice sound QA/QC and risk management procedures.
  • Work with administrative staff to complete draft invoices according to corporate standards and proactively pursue accounts receivable.
  • Office‑related tasks such as filing project documents, writing specifications, design reviews, and field reports.
  • Research and develop functional testing documents.
  • Pursue business development opportunities with clients, such as participation in professional organizations, social media, and marketing efforts.
  • Provide timely response to information requested by the Marketing Department and assist with pre‑proposal research, proposal development, client surveys, and client presentations or interviews.
  • Proactively seek business opportunities and instill doer‑seller activities in all avenues.
Education
  • High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) is required.
  • 5+ years of direct building envelope commissioning/consulting experience is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, or building construction‑related field preferred.
Skills
