What is building envelope commissioning?

Building envelope commissioning is a quality assurance process performed by professionals to verify that the building's exterior systems—such as walls, roofs, windows, and insulation—are designed, installed, and functioning correctly to ensure energy efficiency, durability, and occupant comfort. It involves testing and documentation to confirm that the building envelope meets specified performance criteria, often requiring specialized knowledge of construction and building science. This process is typically part of a broader commissioning effort to optimize building performance throughout the construction and occupancy phases.
