Building Envelope Consultant - Design
Location: Raleigh, NC / Remote (Hybrid options available)

Position: Building Envelope Consultant - Design
We are seeking an experienced Building Envelope Consultant / Design to support the evaluation, design, investigation, and construction administration of building envelope systems across a variety of project types. This role provides technical expertise related to roofing systems, waterproofing, exterior wall assemblies, and building enclosure performance while supporting project delivery from assessment through construction completion. The ideal candidate is technically strong, detail-oriented, and capable of leading projects, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform building envelope assessments, visual surveys, and condition evaluations for existing facilities and new construction projects.
  • Develop construction documents, details, specifications, and repair recommendations utilizing AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Perform and oversee testing investigations including infrared moisture scans, water infiltration investigations, and related building envelope diagnostics.
  • Prepare technical reports summarizing findings, recommendations, and conclusions.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and project teams throughout project execution.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables for assigned projects.
  • Conduct site inspections, field investigations, and construction observations.
  • Review contractor submittals, RFIs, change orders, and pay applications during construction administration activities.
  • Conduct pre-bid meetings, pre-construction meetings, and related project coordination activities.
  • Coordinate and review work performed by subconsultants and other disciplines.
  • Support proposal development, client communications, and business development initiatives.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior Building Envelope staff.
  • Maintain familiarity with current building envelope standards, systems, and industry best practices including IIBEC, ASTM, NRCA, CSI, and related organizations.

Job Requirements:

  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of building envelope consulting, roofing, waterproofing, or façade-related experience preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Architect (RA), or IIBEC certifications such as RRO, RRC, RWC, REWC, or RBEC preferred.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience preparing construction documents and technical specifications.
  • Strong understanding of roofing systems, waterproofing assemblies, wall systems, and building enclosure science.
  • Experience with building envelope testing and forensic investigations preferred.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • OSHA 10/30 certification or willingness to obtain certification required.
  • Ability and willingness to perform field work and travel as required.
  • Pre-employment drug test, background check, and valid driver’s license required.

Working Conditions:
This position includes both office and field responsibilities. Field assignments may require climbing ladders, walking roofs, lifting equipment, working at heights, and performing inspections in varying weather conditions while utilizing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
