Building Engineer - JLL
What this job involves: As a Building Engineer at JLL, you will support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of building systems and facility infrastructure. This role is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and building systems equipment. The engineer will utilize technical knowledge, operational data, and hands-on experience to identify potential equipment issues, determine repair urgency, and help maintain uninterrupted building operations. This position plays a key role in delivering high-quality facility services while ensuring compliance with safety standards, operational procedures, and maintenance best practices.
What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and related building systems equipment.
  • Operate and maintain equipment including centrifugal water chillers, boilers, pumps, fans, compressors, heat exchangers, air handlers, chilled water systems, and building automation systems (BAS).
  • Conduct routine facility and mechanical room inspections to identify operational deficiencies, safety concerns, or maintenance needs.
  • Safely diagnose equipment issues using instrumentation, operational data, blueprints, and technical knowledge to determine repair priorities and corrective actions.
  • Complete assigned service requests and accurately document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and operational findings.
  • Support facility operations through minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and general maintenance repairs as needed.
  • Assist with operational support activities including vendor coordination, asset inventory verification, and facility tours while communicating repair recommendations and operational concerns to management.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or state equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two years of related trade schooling or equivalent technical training.
  • Experience in building operations, facility maintenance, or a related engineering field.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems, boilers, pumps, air compressors, and related mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and assembly instructions.
  • City of Philadelphia Class A Building Operator License required.
  • Universal CFC Certification required.
  • This position is covered by the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 835. Candidates must be a member in good standing or eligible to join.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience operating and maintaining building automation systems (BAS).
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and facility work order systems.
  • Familiarity with low-pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs within commercial facilities.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a facility operations environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills for reporting operational issues and maintenance activities.

Work Shift: from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
