Overview
Position Summary
The Building Engineer is responsible for the daily maintenance, safety, and operational readiness of the school facility. This role ensures the building and grounds are safe, clean, and fully functional to support students, faculty, and staff. The Engineer oversees preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, vendor coordination, and compliance with all local and state regulations related to school facilities.
This position requires a hands-on leader who can manage building systems while maintaining a visible presence within the school community.
Pay Rate
USD $100,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct daily walkthroughs of the school building and grounds.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC, boilers, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues such as leaks, lighting outages, minor electrical problems, and classroom equipment repairs.
  • Ensure proper heating and cooling throughout the building.
  • Maintain roofing, windows, doors, flooring, and structural components.
  • Monitor and maintain gymnasium, cafeteria, and auditorium facilities.
  • Support event setup and breakdown (assemblies, parent nights, graduations, etc.).
  • Oversee fire alarm systems, sprinklers, emergency lighting, and security systems.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Coordinate required inspections (fire, boiler, elevator, health department).
  • Assist administration with emergency preparedness and drill execution.
  • Maintain up-to-date safety logs and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors performing work on campus.
  • Ensure vendor compliance with school policies and child safety requirements.
  • Oversee small renovation or improvement projects as needed.
  • Maintain work order system and maintenance logs.
  • Track preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Assist with annual facilities budget planning.
  • Provide regular updates to the Head of School, Principal, or Facilities Director.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification preferred.
  • 10+ years of facilities or building maintenance experience in (school experience preferred).
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • HVAC systems
    • Boilers and mechanical systems
    • Plumbing and electrical systems
    • General carpentry and repairs
  • Relevant certifications (OSHA training, F89, S12, S13, A35, P98, P99, W07, F03) highly desirable.
