Summary of Position Functions
The Shift Supervisor for the Central Energy Plant is responsible for the oversight, management, and reporting of day-to-day activities within the plant. This requires intermediate level supervisory capabilities and current knowledge of a wide range of energy systems.

Essential Position Functions

  •  Operates boilers with pressures greater than 75.
  • Utilizes chillers up to 2000 ton.
  • Maintains and operates cooling towers.
  • Possesses working knowledge of, and regularly operates, wet and dry fire suppression systems.
  • Regularly reads and acts on blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Routinely performs water testing and accurately interprets results.
  • Consistently works with little to no supervision.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Will supervise employees in the Central Plant. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Veregy’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

Education and Qualifications
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED); and three (3) to five (5) years of Chiller and Boiler Plant operation experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Knowledge of Veregy’s services and processes is required which can be obtained through intellect, technical inclination, and dedication to gain such knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of emergency generator and electrical distribution systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the refrigeration cycle and heat transfer theory.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of hot water heating systems.
  • Knowledge of compressed air systems.
  • Familiarity with BMS (building management systems) and UMS (utility management systems) software such as INFOR, Facility Explorer, and Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Knowledge (Intermediate to advanced) of various operating systems, software products (e.g. MS Office, etc.), is required.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and other construction lifts.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time / workload.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and extra hours if needed.
  • Possesses and maintains effective leadership and deductive reasoning skills.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • NAPE (National Association of Power Engineers) certified or the ability to attain the NAPE certification within the second year of employment.
  • EPA Refrigerant Recovery certified (universal) or the ability to attain certification withing the second year of employment.
