To thrive as a Building Contractor, you need comprehensive knowledge of construction processes, project management, and local building codes, often backed by relevant licensure and experience. Familiarity with construction management software, estimating tools, and safety compliance systems is typically required. Strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help manage teams and client relationships. These skills enable contractors to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget while maintaining high standards and client satisfaction.

Building contractors often juggle several projects at once, which can present challenges such as coordinating schedules, managing subcontractors, and ensuring consistent communication across sites. Effective time management and organizational skills are essential to prevent delays and cost overruns. Contractors also need to be proactive in resolving unexpected issues, such as material shortages or permit delays, while maintaining strong client relationships and meeting quality standards.

Assistant Store Manager - Hardware and Building Supply

Assistant Store Manager - Hardware and Building Supply

Mega Building Supply

Manhattan, NY

$75K - $95K/yr

Full-time

Posted 10 days ago

Job description

We’re an independent building supply and hardware store on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and we’re growing. We need an assistant store manager who takes ownership of the floor, the staff, and the numbers — not someone who just keeps the lights on.
What you’ll own:
∙ Day-to-day floor operations and staff supervision
∙ Customer experience from walk-in to checkout
∙ Driving sales — upselling, product knowledge, building contractor and building super relationships
∙ Receiving, inventory integrity, and merchandising standards
 ∙ Opening and closing responsibilities
You’re the right fit if:
∙ You have 3+ years managing or supervising in a hardware, building supply, or trades-adjacent retail environment
∙ You understand the contractor and building superintendent customer — how they think, what they need, and how to earn their repeat business
∙ You’ve managed floor staff and aren’t afraid of a direct conversation
∙ You treat the store like it’s yours
Compensation: $75,000–$95,000 annually, based on experience
To apply: Tell us where you’ve managed in hardware or building supply, how many people you supervised, and one thing you did that measurably improved store performance.
