Building Connected information

What is Building Connected?

Building Connected is a cloud-based platform that streamlines the preconstruction process in the construction industry. It connects general contractors, subcontractors, and owners to manage bidding, qualification, and risk. The platform helps users find and invite the right partners, track project opportunities, and ensure efficient collaboration. Building Connected is widely used for bid management, networking, and streamlining communication between construction professionals.

How does a Building Connected professional typically collaborate with project stakeholders throughout the construction process?

A Building Connected professional plays a vital role in facilitating communication and collaboration among general contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers during all phases of a construction project. They use specialized software to manage bid invitations, track project milestones, and ensure all parties are aligned on timelines and requirements. Regular coordination meetings and real-time updates help streamline workflows, minimize misunderstandings, and address potential issues proactively. Effective collaboration is essential for delivering projects on time and within budget.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a construction project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Construction Project Manager, you need expertise in project planning, budgeting, and contract management, typically supported by a degree in construction management or a related field. Familiarity with project management software such as Procore, Autodesk, or BuildingConnected, as well as certifications like PMP or OSHA, is highly valuable. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills help manage teams and coordinate with stakeholders. These abilities ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to required safety and quality standards.

Job description

About the Role

We're hiring an Estimator to support the full project lifecycle โ€” from RFP review through bid turnover โ€” playing an active role in driving accuracy, risk analysis, and cost competitiveness for electrical utility, substation, and transmission construction projects.

What You'll Do

  • Analyze RFP documentation, drawings, and specifications to fully understand project scope and document scope-impacting language
  • Prepare detailed cost breakdowns for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor, and miscellaneous cost categories using B2W estimating software
  • Develop and validate quantity take-offs using On-Screen Takeoff (OST) for substation work and Excel-based tools for transmission line scopes
  • Solicit, evaluate, and document subcontractor and vendor pricing, including Best Value Analysis and RFQ management within Building Connected and B2W
  • Support constructability discussions and means-and-methods development with SMEs and Project Delivery
  • Populate and maintain the Risk Registry, identifying known and targeted risks and their potential cost impact
  • Contribute to Basis of Estimate (BOE) narratives, ACE (Assumptions, Clarifications, Exclusions) documentation, and other proposal deliverables
  • Participate in and help prepare for Constructability, Technical, and Executive Reviews
  • Maintain accurate document control across pursuit folders per SOP naming and filing standards
  • Engage directly with clients, subcontractors, and vendors under the guidance of Senior and Lead Estimators

What You Bring

  • 3โ€“5 years of estimating experience in electrical utility, substation, transmission, or distribution construction (or a closely related field)
  • Working knowledge of cost estimating principles, including labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost development
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and RFP/RFQ documentation
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills, with attention to accuracy and detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with internal stakeholders, clients, and subcontractors
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and willingness to learn B2W, OST, and Building Connected

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with B2W (Bid2Win) estimating software or comparable estimating platforms
  • Familiarity with high-voltage substation or transmission line construction methods
  • Exposure to schedule development tools such as P6 or Microsoft Project
