Position Overview
This Process Control Engineer opportunity is focused on maintaining and improving automated control systems within operating facilities. The Process Control Engineer will support project delivery across system upgrades, installation activities and commissioning work in a hybrid working environment. This Process Control Engineer position offers the chance to contribute to technically complex engineering projects with travel across facilities in the United States. The Process Control Engineer role is well suited to candidates with strong automation knowledge, sound engineering judgement and a practical approach to troubleshooting. The Process Control Engineer will play an important part in supporting safe, reliable and efficient plant operations.
Role Context
This role sits within an industrial gases business supporting operating facilities and engineering project delivery. The working environment includes a hybrid arrangement with time split between home and office, alongside travel to site locations for installation checkout and commissioning. The position supports multi-discipline engineering project teams and collaboration with production staff across facility-based projects.
Key Responsibilities
  • Execute projects to maintain and improve automated control systems within operating facilities.
  • Collaborate with multi-discipline engineering project teams and production staff.
  • Support system expansion and obsolescence replacement projects.
  • Deliver PLC upgrade work including Allen Bradley PLC5 to CLX5000 and Allen Bradley SLC500 to CLX5000 migrations.
  • Support Siemens PCS7 HMI version upgrades and controller upgrade activities.
  • Carry out TIA Portal version upgrades to v20.
  • Travel to site locations for installation checkout and system commissioning.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, cybersecurity and quality standards.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Essential:
    Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Control Engineering, or a related field.
  • Essential:
    At least 3 years of hands-on controls/automation engineering experience.
  • Essential:
    Experience with PLC and/or DCS control systems.
  • Essential:
    Experience with at least one of the following platforms: Allen Bradley PLC5, Allen Bradley SLC500, ControlLogix (CLX5000), Siemens PCS7, or Siemens TIA Portal.
  • Essential:
    Experience executing control system upgrades, migrations, modernization, or obsolescence replacement projects.
  • Essential
    : Experience with commissioning, startup, system checkout, and troubleshooting in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

    : Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.

    : Ability to travel 20% to 40%, primarily within the United States.
