What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Build Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Build Manager, you need expertise in construction management, project scheduling, budgeting, and a relevant degree or certification in construction or engineering. Familiarity with project management software like MS Project or Primavera, as well as understanding of building codes and safety regulations, is typically required. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help you effectively coordinate teams and resolve on-site challenges. These skills ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality and safety standards.

What are some common challenges Build Managers face when coordinating cross-functional teams during large-scale projects?

Build Managers often encounter challenges such as aligning priorities among diverse teams (like development, QA, and operations), managing tight deadlines, and ensuring seamless communication across departments. These challenges require strong organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to quickly resolve conflicts and adapt to changing project requirements. Successful Build Managers proactively set clear expectations, leverage project management tools, and regularly check in with stakeholders to keep projects on track.

What is the difference between Build Manager vs Construction Supervisor?

AspectBuild ManagerConstruction Supervisor
CredentialsTypically requires a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or related field; certifications like PMP or CCM are common.Usually has a high school diploma or associate degree; some roles may require certifications like OSHA or site safety training.
Work EnvironmentOversees multiple projects, manages teams, and coordinates with clients and contractors at a strategic level.Supervises daily on-site activities, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
Industry UsageCommonly used in large-scale projects, corporate construction, and project management firms.Frequent in residential, commercial, and industrial construction sites.

Job description

We take play seriously. We're looking for curious adventurers ready to find their party, fueled by imagination and drive to build what's never been built before. At Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, you'll collaborate with passionate teams to reimagine our iconic brands and create experiences that spark joy, connection, and community through the magic of play. This is your chance to shape legendary play that lasts a lifetime.
Step Into the Multiverse: Your Next Adventure Starts Here
At Wizards of the Coast, we harness the power of imagination and connection to create unforgettable experiences. We create entertainment that inspires creativity, sparks passion, forges friendships, and fosters communities around the globe. In every pursuit our mission is to inspire a lifetime love of games. Whether it's through the strategic depth of Magic: The Gathering®, the rich storytelling of Dungeons & Dragons®, or our AAA digital game studios, we build worlds that bring people together, spark creativity, and fuel adventure. As we continue to grow and explore new realms, we're seeking passionate, curious, and innovative minds to join the adventure.
Do you have the passion and expertise to shape the tools and pipelines that power great games? We are seeking a Build Engineer to join our Central Technology Build Engineering team as we develop and curate an Unreal Engine ecosystem to share across our internal game studios. You will join a specialized team responsible for unblocking developers, ensuring build stability, and optimizing iteration workflows across multiple concurrent titles. This is a hands-on IC role where engineering excellence meets operational reliability. You'll collaborate closely with game development teams to ensure a seamless experience for all Unreal-powered studios under our banner. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain the compile and packaging pipelines, automation frameworks, and engine tooling that keep our studios moving fast.
What You'll Do:
  • Work with the team to design a ready-made suite of Unreal Engine build systems, pipeline tooling, and automation frameworks shared across studios
  • Own and evolve our Unreal Engine Horde ecosystem - including engine and tooling customizations, and plugin management
  • Develop, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines for compile, cook, package, and submission workflows across multiple platforms (PC, console, mobile)
  • Support and administer studio-specific Perforce environments, including stream management, workspace configuration, and trigger scripts
  • Investigate and resolve build failures, cook errors, and packaging issues in close partnership with game teams and engine programmers
  • Define standards and best practices for performance, observability, and maintainability of build pipelines
  • Act as a technical partner and mentor to studio engineers, helping teams adopt and extend shared systems effectively
  • Innovate with emerging build technologies, engine tooling, and AI-assisted developer workflows

What You'll Bring:
  • Deep, hands-on experience with Unreal Engine internals - including UBT, UAT, the cook and packaging pipeline, and plugin/module architecture
  • Proven ability to write and maintain build scripts and automation in C++, C#, Python, or Bash in the context of game engine workflows
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for game projects (e.g., Jenkins, BuildGraph, TeamCity, GitHub Actions, or similar)
  • Administration experience or expert knowledge with Perforce, including branching strategies and workspace automation
  • Familiarity with multi-platform build targets (Windows, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, or mobile) and platform SDK integration
  • Comfortable working with and managing AWS infrastructure
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, pipelines as code, and gitops practices
  • Strong ability to build trust and clarity in communication with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Exposure to Agile/SCRUM methodologies • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience
