What You Will Do
The Biochemistry and Biotechnology Group (B-TEK) in the Bioscience Division is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic post-bachelor's candidate interested in performing research within the facets of biological sciences. The successful candidate will work with a team of scientists, technologists, and students on multiple projects related to mammalian cell culture models. The student will be expected to contribute to different projects as need arises. The ideal student must be meticulous in their work, self-starting, independent, and able to communicate in a professional manner. The term of the appointment is 2 years with opportunities to extend the appointment by transitioning to other types of LANL positions or continuing education.
The student will also act as a member of the Biochemistry and Biotechnology Group (B-TEK) and as a member of the cell culture and mass spectrometry teams. Responsibilities include conducting research and reporting results back to the team at weekly meetings. Furthermore, opportunities will arise to assist in crafting peer-reviewed publications and grant proposals. The student will be encouraged to attend seminars and other LANL functions to expand their knowledge base and broaden interests.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • General background in biological sciences or related field
  • Familiarity with good laboratory practices and experiment design
  • Ability to comfortably work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to troubleshoot protocols
  • Demonstrated competency with computers and software applications for word processing, data processing, and data visualization
  • Ability to maintain and record work performed, data obtained, as well as write and follow detailed protocols
  • Ability to understand and present research results clearly and succinctly in both written and oral formats
  • Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week on a consistent schedule
  • Ability to manage time and see tasks to completion

Training/Certifications:
None
Education/Experience :
A bachelor's degree from an accredited program in biological sciences or a related field obtained at the time of hire or within the past 3 years but have not yet been accepted and enrolled in further graduate programs.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate expertise in mammalian or bacterial cell culture
  • Broad fundamental knowledge of biology, toxicology, or immuno/microbiology
  • Experience with typical cell culture related equipment including microscope, plate reader, autoclave, biosafety cabinet, etc.
  • Experience with cell culture related assays such as LDH, MTT, etc.
  • Desire to report work in peer-reviewed publications.

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
