Position Summary
The Shift Lead supports the Director of Food Distribution with the daily operation of Brother Benno’s Food Pantry/Market and Warehouse. The Shift Lead serves as an extension of the Director, working in tandem to carry out key responsibilities, maintain operational standards, and ensure the daily needs of the department are met. This position serves as a working leader and primary point of contact for staff and volunteers, ensuring daily operations are organized, efficient, clean, and properly communicated.
Key Responsibilities
  • Punctuality & Attendance: Shift begins at 4:45am ends at 1:15pm  unless otherwise approved by management. Maintain reliable attendance and communicate scheduling issues promptly.
  • Daily Operations: Ensure truck stop manifests, organization order forms, and other necessary documents are printed, organized, and available to staff.
  • Staff & Volunteer Leadership: Clearly communicate daily priorities, Market needs, and assignments to staff and volunteers using a kind, professional approach while maintaining authority and accountability.
  • Market & Warehouse: Maintain a working knowledge of the Market and Warehouse, including product locations, workflow, equipment, and basic distribution procedures.
  • Cleanliness & Safety: Maintain cleanliness, organization, food safety, and workplace safety standards established by leadership.
  • Inventory & Distribution: Assist with receiving, organizing, stocking, rotating, and distributing food while communicating inventory or operational concerns to leadership.
  • Administrative Support: Assist the Director with daily operational tasks, staff/volunteer training, problem-solving, and implementation of procedures.
  • Initiative: Identify operational needs and address issues within the scope of the position without waiting for direction, while appropriately escalating matters to leadership.
Leadership Expectations
The Shift Lead is expected to function as an assistant to the Director of Food Distribution and demonstrate a high level of maturity, accountability, and initiative.
