POSITION TITLE:  Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher (ECCAT), Itinerate

Special Education Director may assign bus duties.
Location:        PreK Special Needs - Brooke High School
Evaluated by:  Building Principal/Assistant Principal 
Job Description:  The Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher or Kindergarten Aide supports the instructional program by performing tasks assigned by the regular classroom teacher. 
Qualifications: 



  • Holds a high school diploma or GED/TASC.
  • Holds "Aide" classification.
  • Possesses strong oral and written communication skills.
  • To qualify for the Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher classification, the successful candidate must agree to complete a Temporary or Permanent Authorization endorsed for Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher.** 

Length of Employment: 200 Days 
Salary:  In accordance with the Brooke County Service Personnel Salary Schedule.
Evaluation:    Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Brooke County Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Service Personnel.
Responsibilities:  
The Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher or Kindergarten Aide shall have the following responsibilities and duties: 
1. To provide individual or small group instruction under the supervision of the teacher.
2. To provide students with individualized attention. 
3. To assist in the formative assessment process and documenting student progress.   
4. To set up and operate equipment for instruction. 
5. To assist with preparing materials for instruction. 
6. To assist the teacher and/or supervise arrival, dismissal, lunch and recess duties.  This may include assisting with unloading/loading students from buses; serving/recording meal participation; set-up/clean-up; and transitions to/from classroom/restroom and/or outside activities.
7. To provide assistance to students during fine arts instruction and/or other activities outside of the homeroom classroom. 
8. To assist with the preparation of snacks for students as needed. 
9. To assist in lifting, feeding, toileting and changing clothes of special needs students assigned to the regular classroom. 
10. To assist and supervise special needs students in the regular classroom setting.
11. To assist in maintaining an inventory of classroom materials and supplies. 
12. To assist in the modification of materials and instructional activities for special needs 
      students in the regular classroom. 
13. To practice good safety habits. 
14. To perform clerical duties such as filing, organizing, and documenting for classroom purposes. 
15. To be aware of medications administered to students. 
16. To maintain confidentiality of students' records. 
17. To assist with transportation needs, if needed.   
18. To perform other duties as assigned by kindergarten teacher and/or administrator.

The Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher shall exhibit the following work habits:

Classifications:  
Aide I:  personnel selected and trained for teacher aide classification such as monitor aide, clerical aide, classroom aide or general aide.
Aide II:  personnel referred to in the "Aide l" classification who have completed a training program approved by the state board, or who hold a high school diploma or have received a general educational development certificate. Only personnel classified in an Aide Il class title may be employed as an aide in any special education program.
Aide III:  personnel referred to in the "Aide l" classification who hold a high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and have completed six semester hours of college credit at an institution of higher education or are employed as an aide in a special education program and have one year's experience as an aide in special education.
Aide IV:  personnel referred to in the "Aide l" classification who hold a high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and have completed eighteen semester hours of state board-approved college credit at a regionally accredited institution of higher education, or who have completed fifteen hours of state board-approved college credit at a regionally accredited institution of higher education and successfully completed an in-service training program determined by the state board to be the equivalent of three hours of college credit.
Salary based on experience and education level per CBOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits 
package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
