Job description

KHOU-TV, the TEGNA-owned affiliate in Houston, TX, is seeking a meticulous and technically skilled Production Coordinator to ensure the seamless, high-quality execution of our visual storytelling across streaming and broadcast platforms. At XXXX-TV, you'll be a key, hands-on operator, working closely with the Production Lead to maintain efficient and high-quality daily productions for news, marketing, and sales content. We're looking for a reliable team member who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced news environment.
Responsibilities:

  • Execute the technical requirements for all live and recorded broadcasts, ensuring clean and professional output.
  • Operate complex production systems, including switching software (e.g., vMix), audio mixing boards, and teleprompter systems.
  • Setup, position, and operate robotic studio cameras and adjust studio lighting based on direction from the Production Lead or supervisors.
  • Troubleshoot and quickly resolve technical issues related to production equipment during broadcasts.
  • Assist the Production Lead in organizing and preparing technical elements for special events and breaking news coverage.
  • Support the implementation of standard operating procedures to maintain workflow efficiency and broadcast quality.
  • Maintain effective technical communication with the newsroom and engineering departments to ensure systems are operational.
  • Perform routine checks and basic maintenance on studio and control room equipment, reporting complex issues to engineering.
  • Commit to continuous, high-quality technical support for live coverage of breaking news and community events.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent technical training in broadcasting, media production, or a related field preferred.
  • 1+ years of hands-on television broadcast or live production experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude and proficiency in operating production control room equipment.
  • Hands-on expertise with news production tools, vMix, audio mixers, studio lighting, teleprompter systems, and robotic studio cameras.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform tasks accurately under time pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating technical cues in high-pressure, live situations.
  • Ability to maintain composure and adaptability during breaking news and high-stakes events.
  • Commitment to teamwork and technical excellence.
  • Quick reaction skills for error correction during live broadcasts.
  • Flexibility to work in a 24/7/365 operation, including various shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
