Requirements
Skills & Knowledge:
• Ability to train, motivate, and effectively direct the work of employees in a safe, efficient manner.
• Assist in the preparation of annual budget estimates and execute the authorized expenditures; keep needed records related to expenditures, payrolls, personnel operations, equipment, chemicals, weather, and safety; and maintain effective employee and public relations.
• Experience in all phases of golf course management and turf culture.
• Knowledge in the game of golf. Thorough knowledge of the construction, establishment, and maintenance practices on golf courses putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers; planting and culture of turf grasses used on golf courses; the planting, cultivating and pruning of ornamental plants, shrubs, and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; pest control methods and materials; drainage methods; and watering practices and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps, and automatic controls.
• Knowledge of construction and maintenance of the maintenance facility, shelters, fences, bridges, golf cart paths, service roads, parking lots, ponds, and streams.
• In addition to experience, continuing education is necessary to stay abreast of current technology. This includes attending Golf Course Superintendent meetings, various seminars and educational sessions, visiting other golf courses and reading the latest technical journals and articles. Active member of GCSAA and local chapters and certified status preferred. Familiar with and understands company policy.
Licensure/Certification:
• Degree in agronomy, horticulture/plant/soil sciences desired or equivalent knowledge.
• Certified and or licensed in pesticide usage.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. Company drivers who are Florida residents must obtain a valid Florida license within 30 days of establishing residency to drive on Florida roads.
