Job description

America's second oldest horse racing track, the Fair Grounds has been a New Orleans staple since 1852. We are a premiere entertainment venue presenting thoroughbred & exotic animal races, slots, video poker and simulcasting year-round. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot-machine gaming facility and 13 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.

JOB SUMMARY

The Social Media Intern will assist the Marketing Department during the live racing meet by creating engaging digital content that showcases the excitement of racing, gaming, events, and guest experiences at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Capture and create content for various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, and others.
  • Film, photograph, edit, and publish social media posts, reels, videos, and stories.
  • Conduct on-camera and off-camera interviews with guests, team members, jockeys, trainers, entertainers, and other featured personalities.
  • Write engaging and brand-appropriate captions and social media copy.
  • Assist with real-time event coverage during live racing and special events.
  • Monitor social media trends and help develop creative content ideas.
  • Always maintain a professional and positive representation of the Fair Grounds brand.
  • Monitor social media channels and respond professionally and appropriately to comments, messages, and interactions in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with the Marketing team on content calendars and promotional campaigns.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be 21 years or older. Must be able to obtain a Louisiana State Racing License.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma and must have a bachelor’s degree or currently pursuing a college degree.  Familiarity with Instagram Reels, TikTok, Facebook, and short-form video content required. Basic knowledge of Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar editing tools, and the ability to work in a fast-paced entertainment while meeting deadlines. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common documentation.

Must possess a strong interest in social media, digital marketing, sports, entertainment, or content creation.  Experience with photography, videography, and editing using mobile devices and/or editing software preferred.  Strong written and verbal communication skills.  Comfortable interacting with guests, animals, and conducting interviews.  Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and live racing/event schedules as needed.  Must be able to work in various environments throughout the property, including the slot floor and barn area.

Office/Casino environment; Subject to outdoor temperature; Exposed to smoke, bright lights and noise at times. The work environment consists of very non-demanding surroundings with a low noise level. Will occasionally work in extreme heat or cold conditions.
