  • We are seeking an experienced Bridge Project Manager to help lead and deliver a growing portfolio of bridge and transportation structure projects across Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic. This role is ideal for a senior bridge engineer who is actively transitioning into a client-facing project management role and wants to take the next step in leadership, oversight, and delivery responsibility. The successful candidate will focus on project management, client coordination, schedule and resource management, and team leadership, while leveraging a strong technical bridge design background to guide project teams and ensure high-quality outcomes.
  • This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from smaller $5Mโ€“$10M efforts to large, complex, regionally significant projects and design-build pursuits.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary point of contact for clients, building strong working relationships and managing expectations
  • Coordinate and guide technical resources within the project team to ensure high-quality deliverables
  • Provide technical oversight and direction to bridge/structural staff; not expected to perform daily design, but must be comfortable reviewing work and making technical decisions
  • Develop and manage project management plans, quality management plans, schedules, and staffing plans
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies
  • Manage subconsultants and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
  • Communicate project status, updates, risks, and financial performance to internal leadership and clients
  • Prepare and review progress reports, invoices, and project status presentations
  • Participate in project financial reviews and office leadership meetings
  • Support staff development through mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback
  • Assist with business development activities including client relationship development, proposal support, and interviews
  • Long-term opportunity to serve as a client champion and take on staff oversight / direct reports

Required Experience:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 10+ years of bridge and structural design experience
  • Demonstrated project management experience or clear progression into a PM role
  • Strong client-facing communication and leadership skills (written and verbal)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (Virginia preferred; other state PE considered if able to obtain Virginia PE within a reasonable timeframe)

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with VDOT and Virginia localities/agencies
  • Experience with multiple delivery methods (Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, P3)
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Prior experience working on complex or large-scale transportation infrastructure projects

Work Model

  • Hybrid schedule: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote (remote days are Wednesday and Friday)

Working Conditions

  • Occasional site visits may involve outdoor conditions and limited lifting (up to 25 lbs)
