POSITION SUMMARY:          

This position will work on drafting routine to complex engineering projects utilizing Computer Aided Drafting programs and design software.  Position specializes in structural engineering projects.  Project work will focus on bridge design. 


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • In coordination with a team of surveyors, project managers, engineers and technicians, performs routine to complex drafting assignments structural design projects.
  • Utilizes AutoCAD, Revit, structural analysis and other software to draft/design projects.
  • Will focus on buildings, retaining walls, foundations, and other structures drafting/design work.
  • Includes transferring information from other team members into Computer Aided Drafting software programs and applying appropriate symbols and drafting standards to create a quality finished product.
  • Works with engineer or designer on full plan development. May prepare drawings from rough sketches or interpretation of field notes.
  • May work with field staff to complete documentation of field conditions for eventual reproduction in drawings.
  • Interprets “as-built” and redline information and makes appropriate revisions to plans.
  • Manages drafting work and interfaces with other disciplines as needed.
  • Assists in the development, modification, and application of three dimensional models in the appropriate design software.
  • May assist with proposal preparations and fee development
  • Typically handles multiple projects for multiple clients simultaneously.
  • May assist Project Engineer/Project Manager with performing feasibility studies/layout work of complex structures.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge and abilities in AutoCAD, Revit and structural analylsis software
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Highly motivated with effective communication skills
  • Exhibits initiative, responsibility, and flexibility
  • Highly detail oriented
  • Good math skills (ability to: add, subtract, multiply, divide)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent listening and reading skills, including proofreading
  • Good time management skills with ability to handle complex deadline driven workload
  • Ability to work independently and also in a team of professionals
  • Ability to embrace new technology and processes
  • Knowledge of structural design
  • Knowledge in one or all of the following:
    • Concrete
    • Masonry
    • Steel
    • Timber 

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.  2-year technical degree in design and drafting or civil engineering technology preferred.

Experience:

4+ years drafting experience required.  AutoCAD and MS Office knowledge/experience required.  Experience using Revit and structural analysis software are preferred.

Travel Expectations:

Must be able to travel in-state and out-of-state on occasion, which usually would consist of visiting the outlying locations, attending seminars or business meetings.  Expected travel is 10-20% of the time depending on projects.
