What is a bridge carpenter?

A bridge carpenter is a specialized carpenter that builds or produces wood components for bridges. As a bridge carpenter, your job duties are to build, maintain, and repair wooden bridges, as well as related wooden structures such as scaffolding, rigging, and safety signs. This job requires experience using hand and power tools for woodworking purposes. Additional qualifications include strong math skills and the stamina to perform long hours of manual labor. Most bridge carpenters learn the required skills through on-the-job training or an apprenticeship, but some technical colleges offer relevant degree programs. In this career, you spend much of your time in a workshop, but onsite carpentry is often required.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a bridge carpenter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Bridge Carpenter, you need expertise in carpentry, blueprint reading, and construction safety, typically supported by a high school diploma and apprenticeship or vocational training.
