Job description
UT MD Anderson, Department of Breast Surgical Oncology Research in Houston, Texas is recruiting a scientist at the Assistant Professor, RFA level to expand and strengthen the translational research capabilities of the department. The department is dedicated to excellence in research and education related to Breast Cancer and the training of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in Cancer Biology and prevention and treatment of breast cancer. This role focuses on liquid biopsies, including enumeration and characterization of circulating tumor cells (CTCs), assessment of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), and/or exosomes, and/or methylation. This RFA position is responsible for working with the research team to translate fundamental discoveries made in the laboratory into peer-reviewed grants and publications and share their research expertise to expedite discovery and translation of the departments findings into improving clinical practice in the field of oncology. This will include writing or assisting with writing peer-reviewed papers and grant funding, and to proactively seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support cancer research. Optimally this will include completion and submission of grant applications, including budget development and analysis. Expectation to attend appropriate seminars and assist with teaching students and trainees that are in the laboratory. Breast Surgical Oncology faculty must be able to work within the context of very intense interpersonal relationships including other faculty, staff and visitors, and to act as a role model as a scientist for faculty, fellows and trainees.
General Duties:
Provides research expertise. Participates in translational and/or laboratory research. Works in a team environment to develop liquid biopsy techniques with a goal of successful translation into clinical practice. Also, writing or assisting with writing peer-reviewed papers and grant funding.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Works and assists in the research laboratory. Attend seminars and assist with teaching students/trainees. Attendance may be mandatory for some meetings as deemed by the Department Chair.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Research
- Actively engages in laboratory research and scholarly activities to enhance the academic environment of the department.
- Develop programs of laboratory or translational research and scholarly activities in keeping within the goals of the department. Requires the ability to synthesize a myriad of information pertaining to the area of research. May necessitate instructing through written or verbal communication, research support personnel in protocol implementation, writing scientific papers, and grant development.
- Seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support cancer research. Will require completion and submission of grant applications. Will also require budget development and analysis.
- Previously participated in an appropriate academic, industrial or governmental research program.
- Has evidence of ability to carry out individual collaborative research and support, or to play role in departmental or institutional research initiatives.
- Has co-author or senior-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Must be able to work within a context of very intense interpersonal relationships including other faculty, staff and visitors and be a role model as a scientist for faculty, fellows, and trainees.
