Systems Technician (Electro-mechanical)

Dioxycle

San Francisco, CA โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Job description

About Dioxycle
Dioxycle is pioneering breakthrough carbon utilization technologies that convert industrial emissions into sustainable chemicals with unprecedented energy and cost efficiency. By displacing fossil fuels for the production of key chemicals, Dioxycle has the potential to ultimately reduce over 800 million tons of CO2 per year, representing over 2% of the world's emissions.
At the core of our process is a novel electrolyzer, using electricity and widely available feedstocks (CO, CO2 emissions, salt streams) rather than fossil fuels, de-linking the production of critical chemicals from fossil-linked supply chains exposed to chokepoints, export bans, and price volatility. We focus on chemicals where our direct electrified pathway simplifies complex multi-step fossil-fuel-based processes into fewer simpler steps; delivering a process that is both cleaner and cheaper.
Our team is innovating across chemical, mechanical and system engineering to turn carbon transformation into an economically feasible, industrial reality through this completely novel technological approach. Having completed our industrial-scale electrolyzer prototype, we are now working with our chemical and downstream offtakers towards First-of-a-kind plant deployment and subsequent commercial roll-out.
We are supported by world-class funders including Bill-Gates-founded Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital and Gigascale Capital and have raised $40M to date. We operate from two centers in Paris and California (so whether you are passionate about outdoors or good food/art scenes, we have a location for you to join!)
Your Mission
Dioxycle is seeking a hands-on Systems Technician to join our Menlo Park-based team to support experimental tests on our electrolyzers. You will play a key role in our electrolyzer R&D by maintaining and upgrading our electrolyzer test stations. This will involve coordinating with our chemistry and systems engineering teams to troubleshoot hardware issues with our test stations, and implementing hardware upgrades. You will also contribute to our day-to-day lab operations to ensure our electrolyzers generate the reliable, high-quality data that drives our technology toward industrial scale.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and upgrade test benches, including instrumentation, piping, and controls
- Wire, install, and troubleshoot sensors, actuators, valves and pumps
- Write documentation for changes to our system
- Perform chemical analyses on solutions using techniques such as titration, conductivity measurements, and related analytical methods
- Support the execution of experimental campaigns: prepare reagents and electrolyte solutions and handle chemical products safely
- Actively foster a culture of safety in the lab
Abilities and expertise we are looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering degree, or similar experience
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds and work independently in a dynamic environment with a proactive approach
  • Knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems
  • Hands-on experience with sensors, actuator, and basic electronics troubleshooting
  • Basic mechanical knowledge to assemble and repair components on test benches
  • Comfortable working with international and diverse teams

Nice to have:
  • 1+ years of wet lab experience (internship, laboratory, or other) with an understanding of general chemical lab safety
  • Experience with Python, C-code, or other languages

Mindset we are looking for
  • Exemplary work ethic and self-driven attitude: you get things done fast and to a high standard and you don't drop the ball
  • "Street-smart": you don't take no for an answer and will figure out a way to solve anything with the means available
  • Commitment to the mission and ambition and to creating a kind, high-performance and fun atmosphere at work (100% on-site role)
  • Passion for innovation and problem-solving attitude
  • Dedication to investing time and effort for the betterment of the team
  • Going the extra 20% that makes a good deliverable into an outstanding deliverable
  • Humble, low-ego and curious

What we have to offer
  • Unique journey: We are an early-stage company with a world-class team and a flat structure.
  • Impact: We are building a product that will reshape century-old industrial processes to build a better, more sustainable and resilient world
  • People-first: We love our people. We are excited to see one another every morning when coming to work. We choose people and they choose us to share a similar excitement.
  • Feedback over ego: We are self-improving whilst helping others grow. We are no-ego doers and we are all responsible for shaping the company.
  • International team: We are an international team made up of over 17 nationalities, and hopefully many more soon!
  • Fun: We constantly strive to cultivate a great work atmosphere and organize regular team events.
  • Competitive compensation packages
  • Generous Employee Stock Ownership plans
  • Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Ergonomic work stations & state-of-the-art equipment

Our process
  • 2 x 30 mins intro call with the team to understand your career expectations, and answer your questions
  • 60-minute technical video interview with Systems team member and Josh, Lead Electrochemist
  • Cofounder interview (video interview)
  • Onsite interview to meet the team, see the lab & have lunch with the team!
  • A series of reference calls with provided contacts
