The Role and Why It's Important
Our Breakfast Cooks are the heart of the Market Grille morning operation, preparing a wide variety of hot and cold breakfast items that fuel our customers' days. In this role, you'll prep ingredients, assemble dishes according to restaurant recipes and specifications, and keep the kitchen running smoothly from the first shift through the last.

What You'll Do
No two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:
  • Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and making every interaction a positive one
  • Prepare cooking surfaces and ready the kitchen for service
  • Prepare vegetables, sides, meats, and breakfast foods according to restaurant recipes and specifications
  • Place food in hot cases, monitor amounts, and refill as necessary throughout your shift
  • Prepare items for upcoming shifts to ensure a smooth transition
  • Stay knowledgeable of all menu items and take guest orders as needed
  • Order product and supplies when necessary or notify the department head of needs
  • Practice proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and organized at all times
  • Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
  • Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned
  • Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines
  • Report to work when scheduled and on time

Your Skills
  • Solve practical problems and interpret instructions across a variety of situations with limited standardization
  • Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately
  • Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing
  • Work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced kitchen environment

Accountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home; Food Service Manager; Market Grille Department Manager; Assistant Market Grille Department Manager
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience required
  • Six months or less of similar or related work experience preferred

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
  • Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
  • Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
  • Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
  • Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties

Working Environment
This is a fast-paced role in a kitchen environment where you will be on your feet throughout your shift. You will have frequent exposure to cool and warm temperatures, dampness, equipment noise and vibrations, possible equipment movement hazards from slicers and choppers, and daily exposure to cleaning chemicals or solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
The anticipated hourly starting wage for this position is $12.00 to $15.00 depending on experience.
